Went for a drive today and the motor developed a knock/rattle. Dammit!!! Pulled the valve covers and listened to the valvetrain, nope...bottom end...Dammit!!! Drop the oil, hmmm...looks pretty green for being changed yesterday. Well I pulled a couple rod caps, they look fine. Wiggled the rods...looks like a wrist pin seized up.

Got to drive 4 hours on thursday to go to work for a month...this is just what I need. Oh well, the T-bird still runs...

That sucks. I hope you can get her back up and running soon.

Your oil was green? As in it was full of coolent?

How would a wrist pin failure result in coolent in the oil? Do you suspect that the block has been damaged?

I was thinking I had coolant leaking into the oil some how, thinning the oil out and causing the wrist pin to lock up.

I pull the motor today and took the pan off. On a couple of the rod the small end looks like its been blued from heat. I found metal filings in the pan and it looks like one of the bores has been scuffed. I'm going to pull the pistons tonight, that might reveal a little more. So far I've pull a couple rod bearings, they look good. So it looks like new wrist pins, a cylinder hone, rings and possibly pistons. All that with less than 1000 miles on the motor.

But you have to love cars where one man can pull the motor in less than six hours.

Well brought the block and pistons/rods home yesterday. They had to bore three cylinders another .010 over to get them to clean up. I should have it back in the car and running in the next week or so. So with the machine work, 3 new pistons and a gasket set, I should be good to go again. Nothing a few hundred dollars and some time can't fix.
