I suggest a Spec man
Go with a Stage I or a Stage II which is what I have
Stage I will be good for up to 300+lb/ft or torque easy
Stage II will be good for close to 450+lb/ft. Anything higher go with a Stage III

My stage II is the 2nd best mod Ive done. You will notice a HUGE improvement in daily driving, I know I did

Find a speed shop near you and tell them what you want or have them help you make a decision. They may not go with a Spec, but they will go with what they are familiar with and know works

How much is it for a new clutch including installation normally? My clutch is making some noise when pushed in all the way. Also I'm going to be installing my NOS kit in the next week or two so I'll be on borrowed time anyways. Thanks for any info.

If you have a stock trans with a lot of miles just get a king cobra. If you get something to crazy you'll blow 3rd gear most likely.

i have a Spec stage three on order right now......
I think with 260 hp and 300ftlbs to the wheels the stage three may be overkill...lol but it was only 40 bucks more than stage 2.... I t can handle up to i think 655 ftlbs!..lol
But i have heard only good things about the spec clutches...
Also I heard alot of good stuff about clutchmasters , but they were way to pricey for me!... And as i still have the stock clutch i really cant say crap about how either of them work or feel....sorry

I just had my spec II installed 2 weeks ago so I am still breaking it in, but so far its a awsome clutch, man does it grab. it cost me 300 on partshopper and then a guy I know who builds mustangs installed it for 200. If you want a spec I they are only 200. I say spec.

Why would someone not going with stage III considering the price difference isn't much and it can't handle so much more torque?

Pretty simple easy to read question. Why wouldn't anyone get the top of the line spec clutch. It can handle so much more torque than the others. Why go through the trouble of installing a stage 1 or two and saving like what 80 bucks?

the stage 3 would be a little rougher for everyday driving..

some drivers are not looking for that kind of hardcore race clutch for driving to and from work.

What about lightweight flywheels. Do those even exsist in the mustang aftermarket? I mean if you're getting your stock clutch replaced-might as well get the flywheel too.

Right. Less powerful clutches tend to be more streetable and better suited for daily drivers.

Plus (and this was already mentioned above) if you get a clutch that's TOO strong and pair it with a weak tranny, disaster can result. There was a guy in the 5.0 forums that installed a Spec Stage II, took his car out, and blew 3rd gear because that sucker grabbed so hard.

yes there is..

Spec also sells those....

Aluminum ones are kinda pricey though.

Yep, Spec makes an aluminum one but they are around $300. Not sure who else makes one. I don't know how much you'd realistically gain from a lightweight flywheel--does anyone know?

I'm just going to go with a steel flywheel because a heavier flywheel helps keep the revs up between shifts...they drop more with a lighter flywheel so you have to shift faster or you risk falling out of your powerband.
