I once actually failed because I did not have one of the rear side marker lights installed.

That is stupid, low tread. I can understand if you were showing secondary rubber or steel, had a impact blister or such, but just because you went below 2/32nds, WTF. One side marker being out??? Some race cars only have a light on each side anyways. I almost got failed once because of my rear seat delete, the guy said I needed a firewall to prevent fuel from being splashed into the compartment in case of an acident. I don't have a fuel cell, the gas tank is under the car. Sometimes they hire idiots to do the tech inspections, and some of them take it to heart, combined with thier ignorance, it makes a mess.

You were running slicks? Did he even check for a driveshaft loop???

wow, kinda glad you said that. I was thinking of going to the track for the first time in a couple of weeks for a test n tune...see what the LX runs. My rear tires are both pretty low on tread...wonder if I'd pass?

sucks dude.. but thanks for posting... id hate to make the trip and get nothing from it. did he check the rest of the car or did he see that and fail you on the spot? maybe he was jealous how long is insp.? ive yet to go the track and i wonder what the process is. also, i have been told (which is cool) that my car may break 12's... where can i find a list of rules so i kno i will pass? also what rules should i abide by? i dont wanna make my car 13 sec. safe, then run a 12 something. would i get in trouble in a situation like that?

Every track I can think of uses the NHRA rules for safety. Not much to worry about in the 12's but at 11.99 you will need a cage. But a vert is a different story all together.

EDIT: http://www.nhra.com/contacts/tech_faq.html

My local track is run by the tech Nazi's. You cant even run a DR without long studs. Once your car runs better than 13.99 they tech it to death. They even check helmets for SNELL certification and seatbelts for dates!

I went to our local strip the first time with the Bird, and asked the guy where to go for Tech? He asked me if I drove it or trailered it to the track? Told him I drove it. He said I just passed Tech.

Tech? What the hell is tech? Orlando Speedworld doesn't have that crap. I would have failed everytime I went with the 83 if they did tech.

I failed for having a plastic Fram fuel filter (carbureted)....he said if it was his he wouldn't even drive it with one of those, which is complete BS because I see them all the time and they're not dangerous.....Anyway, I now run a metal fuel filter.

i almost failed for not having a hose clamp on my overflow hose on the radiator neck at the radiator cap. Now I have one and now I cant get the radiator cap off unless I take off the overflow hose and clamp first. The Tech inspector said You Aint gonna pi$$ antifreeze all over my track. Fix it or your outa here. So I fixed it and cursed him under my breath the whole time.

at our local TnT they make sure your battery is secure and you have a over flow tank for your coolant, and thats about it. i have never heard of tire tread. thats stupid. i have been to some tracks though that didn't have tech, and i wish they did, because there are some P.O.S out there that leak all kinds of fluid and it takes forever for them to clean the track.

Don't run race gas you don't need it, it will only hurt power, even with the N2O unless you are trying to run a ton of timing....

Remember gas is about 7lbs a gal, try running a 1/4-1/2 tank if you can....

You guys are actually allowed to run coolant at your track? All cars older than 1995 have to run water here.

Your insurance won't even cover damage at the track!! That's F-ing crazy!!

Our local track barely tech's street cars unless the demonstrate a low et and/or high speed capability.
