Went to the track today....

Getting there, slowly but surely... the track decided to open cause the weather was nice, but no 1/8th mile recordings, no VHT, and my buddy had to grab the water hose and spray for our burnouts.. [no one was there..] there was maybe 10 people there racing total.. was nice.. but no track prep whatsoever . But.. no waiting in line either..

1st pass went 1.886, 12.648 @ 110.98 MPH.. Up from a best of 109.00 last time.. the rockers helped

2nd pass lots of spin.. 2.121, 12.986 @ 109.30 MPH.. Bummer.. got right back in line..

3rd..1.797, 12.516 @ 109.51 MPH new best ET.. [old best was 12.54.. 109.00]

Let it sit with ice.. motor was cold. Also went from 39 PSI fuel press. to 42 [hose off] and bumped timing from 15* to 17* at advice of my buddy [CDNCobra]. At this point in the day the stock trac loc is dying fast. Had a few runs that were let off and pull in early cause of one slick spinning and tach a @ 6000.. getting 1 wheel burnouts too.. :nonono:

4th pass.. 1.745, 12.301 @ 111.05 MPH Yee haw! I was happy when I saw that one! :spot:

Last pass... It pulled the driverside wheel a couple inches... tried short shifting 3-4 @ 5400. :notnice: 1.742, 12.440 @ 109.80 MPH. How it yanked the wheel with a mid 1.70.. I dunno, but its on tape doing so. The early gear change hurt the MPH and ET some I think.

So went home with a 12.30 @ 111... No complaints for stock camshaft. I was going to toss on a 70mm T body but never got the chance to borrow my buddies. I let my one friend take it for a pass for the hell of it, and granny shifting went 12.95 @ 108, 1.9 60'...

So, over the winter some 31 spline axles, a good posi unit [suggestions?], a switch to 4.10s, and a 70 mm T body, and manual rack [never even had a short belt on it today] and I think I could run some 12.00s maybe better..?

Considering the condition of the track.. Great day all in all, ran 2 tenths and 2 MPH quicker and nuthin broke. :nice:

nice mph, not bad times either for a non prepped track. with the mods you have planned, along with a prepped track, you might be pretty close to an 11 sec slip. you should be able to get that 60' down to a high 1.6 with the power you have.

Thanks,

Yeah the track we go to never really does much as far as prepping.. lucky to get water sprayed down for your burnouts, but on the good end of things, its not the busiest place in the world, so no long lines, and, well, it's the only place that was open..

Some of 60 foot problems are in the car itself. The trac-loc has been on its way out for a while now, and leaving at anything more than around 4200, it will just let one of the slicks go right up in smoke and I basically sit there on the line spinning unless I let right off and go again.. I think 3 of my burnouts that day that were actually 2 tire burnouts.. :nonono:

I had a buddy there with a Grand National and he cut 1.60s all day running 109-111 MPH and low 12s. So I need to get a good posi unit and that alone will make a world of difference.

Thats what wintertime is for :D

congrats on the time. as of right now, i think that your power is there, you just have to fine tune it a bit. get that bigger throttle body and take her for a rip. the more air will help in higher RPMs.

posi: Eaton. rebuildable, reliable.... that what i plan on.

Nice timeslip..

Congrats, Thats not bad, stock camshaft, amazing!
Seems to bee a fun day at the track. With the mods
you mentioned, you will even see lower ETs...
Save money, close the door and modify your Car.
Yepp, thats what winters are for...
Good Luck :nice:

Nice Run's.....

I also suggest the Eaton since it has carbon fiber clutches and is fully rebuildable like a stocker. We have one in our 93 Cobra, along with some Mark Williams axles, 9" ends, etc... nice strong set-up.

Thanks guys,

Good to know about the Eaton unit.. I had been debating the Powertrax mini lockers, but read something about the teeth shear off or something under drag race type abuse

Probably go with the Eaton posi in 31 spline, along with the better axles.. and either 3.90s or 4.10s.. I worry the 4.10s 'might' hurt it up top as I want to stay with the 26" tires... but then it will wail all the way to 58-6000 RPM, so I shouldn't be worried.. [I shift around 58-5900].

I know the 4.10s will work well with the 2.95 1 st gear in the T5Z trans off the line where as right now.. my 3.73s and 2.95 1st make it like I have 3.55s when I launch.. add to that the dying trac loc.. and there's the 1.7 60's :nonono:

I was always just a hard sell when it came to the 4.10s.. but the guy that did my gears [he's had some real fast 5.0s] told me i'd be back wanting 4.10s and to just do it right away  Guess he was righ hehe...

PS. - looks like I am picking up a 68000 mile, original owner, silver 1984 SVO... Friday hopefully. Car is mint, i've seen it a few times over the last few years and have always wanted one.
