what are these wires for?

The 2 wires going thru the trans tunnel behind the auto floor shifter.

doing an aod swap on the 66 and need to hook up the reverse lights/neutral safety, i thought the pigtail for those came out of the firewall though. any clairification would be appreciated.

You are correct, the neutral safety / reverse harness enters thru the firewall, a round grommet with four wires. My 66 had no wires or holes where wires used to be going thru the floor near the trans tunnel. There is a ground wire connection but it is in front of the shifter.

thanks. the reverse light does indeed come thru at the shifter.
so that leaves two pigtails on the firewall the grey plug with the red/grey wires are for the neutral safety switch, the other must be a redundant reverse for stick shifts.
