What can be causing my rear end to leak?

Id' say it is what it is.... take that reading and go from there. If you added a tad to it on re-assy no harm done...You just dont wanna go with to much drag.

once you get near the end of the tightening keep checking for in/out play...then creep up some more and re-check. Once that in/out play is gone your getting damn near done...you'll pretty much be able to do it by feel.... you dont want to feel any axial play as you'll get be putting slop in there and it'll be noisy. you need to have it dead nuts both ways.... no in/out play and the reading you took at the start.

Getting that seal out with the pinion in there??? room wise it'll be tight. you may need to drill some 1/8" holes on the sides and drive some screws to get something to yank on???... just thinking out loud. those seals go in tight.

I use a 3/8" dia punch and put it in a hole on the yoke and turn the dif til it jams up against the dif case...youll be able to reef the nut on nice and slow... it works pretty sweet.

Good luck with it...

Would the result of no preload be due to it needing a rebuild? Its taken some abuse at the track over the years with hard launchs on slicks. Would hate to put I all back together and then find out that things should have been replaced before hand

Your call on that one...if its still hitting posi and noise free i'd just do the seal. You don't plan on opening the dif do you??? I thought you were just doing the seal.

not sure your reading has anything to do with it being worn out. you just put that an Eaton posi unit in there didn't you???

I'm just going to set the preload for used bearings and call it good. Did not even need to use a puller for the flange it fell right off as soon as the nut came off. The pinion gear was only showing 3 threads beyond the nut.

What is the easiest way to get the new seal seated properly? Every time I try to put it in the other side that I am not trying to get in comes back out
