I have a 92 GT that I have pulled the wiring out of the engine bay to paint. What can I eliminate without any computer problems? I am emission exempt and have already removed the converters and smog pump. Can I eliminate the charcoal canister and vent line? I also found 2 large canisters under the passenger fender, no idea what they do. I also do not know what the double vacum line sensor type things are attached to the passenger shock tower on the inside of the engine bay.

Anyone able to help it would be greatly appreciated!

The two sensors on the pass. shock tower are smog emissions valves, TAD & TAB solenoids. They supply vacuum to the secondary and by-pass valves coming off the smog pump.

There should also be an EGR Solenoid above those valves that supplies vacuum to the EGR Valve.

One of the canisters in the passengers side wheel well is the vacuum resivor for the solenoids. I can't remember what the other is for at the moment, I can look when I get home ithis evening.

Unless you are deleting the Smog system you will need them.

that sounds about right from what I found in the Chilton manuel. i have already pulled the smog pump off years ago and the tubes going to the H pipe, so I can eliminate those without any computer problems?

one of the canisters is the reservoir for the smog and the other is the A/C reservoir so if you have ac and plan on using it dont disconnect that one.
and if you dont park you car in a garage it should be ok to delete the purge line to the charcoal cannister and the cannister. i did and it never effected anything.

Since you have already removed them you are probably getting the codes for non functioning smog. I have seen on here that sometimes it will throw the check engine light when you remove them, others it will just give you the codes. Either way you will always get the codes unless you have a chip made for the computer that has the smog removed.

Most people seem to just live with the codes!

Charcoal canister is a safety system, which I wouldn't remove, but I know many people do. If removed make sure you don't park in an enclosed area. It traps unspent fuel fumes, so if removed I would expect you might get a small whiff of gas on a hot day.

guess I will just relocate it then, I do park in the garage. I have an HP turbo kit coming and I know I have to remove the bracket it attaches to.
