I know in 65 ford started putting the tags on but was the numbers just on the side of it in 64 because the numbers on it is C4OR 7006-A
C4 1964
O Fairlane
R Tran
If I am right but not sure

All top loaders have numbers on the side of the case ,and tail housing ,the tag has the information and the actual date . A case starting with C9 could be any where from late 68 - early 70 ,that is just the casting number . 65 and later transmission have either 28 or 31 spline tail shafts . The 64s would be less splines but i cant remember the count ,it it has less than 28 spline it is a 64 or earlier . Also, the shifter mounting is different on the mustang ,the falcon and fairlane is at the ned of the tail housing and the mustang is farther up the housing . The smaller spline early top loader is a weak transmission and you dont want it if you run any horse power .
Even though the case in this picture says it is 68 it is actually a big block 69 mustang
