What do you listen to?

If you listen to music while you work on your car, what kind is it?

I like loud, 80's stuff-beastie boys, kiss, def lepord, skid row...my dh prefers "calm" music-country, buffett...I don't mind that music, but when I'm bustin butt trying to get stuff done, especially at 11 pm when I've been up since 6 and working all day, I feel like I'm gonna fall asleep listening to that! Plus there are a few new country songs that just annoy the crap outta me (there's a new one from Reba about being afraid of everything "because of you" and some chick who's mom moved to Cali and wasn't there when she grew up-it's like OMG STFU and get over it already!) Heck, I'd even take Moxy Fruvus (sp) over that!

Where i restored my car, we didn't have but 2 radio stations, one was oldies and the other was the Spanish station. I listened to the oldies for the entire time, kinda grew attached to them, and now every time i hear one of those songs it brings back memories of the good old days with the old man in the garage.

it would be easier to list what i dont listen to when it comes to music. i dont listen to punk or rap music for the most part.

Glenn Miller (seriously);
ZZTop, Eagles, Allman Bros;
Aerosmith, AC/DC, Queen (Tink's little sister can't figure me out );
Doobie Bros (pre Michael Whoever-he-was), CCR.

Oh yeah, can't forget Lynrd Skynrd!

The "Oldies" Rock station on my boom box, or any one of my hundreds of CD's...............and when that's not working, the voices in my head.

BTW.... I do play a mean air guitar!

All kinds, mostly the radio cause i dont wanna keep changing the song myself or cds or having to worry if the song is gonna use profanity.

Dude, you haven't lived until you've heard a five piece Redneck Cowboy band (bass, drums, harmonica, old guy on a fiddle and a long-haired outlaw on lead guitar - the last two guy's overdriving their preamps at about 30%) as they stretch "In the Mood" into an 18 minute series of solos and ensemble pieces.

A few people on the dance floor had to take some hits of oxygen afterwards; and they never tried to keep up with Delbert (56-yr-old on the fiddle) and Tim (21 yr-old on the honest-to-God Strat.) (Okay, he was only 18; but his doctored Driver's License was really convincing) when they started to "get wild" after that.

Me? I was the 14-yr-old "playing" the mixer board for my older brother's band. Roadies didn't get any groupies back then....

This may sound kinda goofy, but I listen to '60's surf music when I work on my '68. I don't know why, but it seems to motivate me more. The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Dick Dale, the Ventures and so on really help me get motivated. I also slip in an Eagles disc once in a while, but that's it. As much as I enjoy country and heavy metal, it just doesn't do anything to keep me going. Plus the car likes it, it seems to go together better with a little "Surf City" playing.

i personally prefer help me rhonda, but thats just me!

anything from curtis mayfield in the early 50's to jimmy paige in the late 70's or MC hammer in the early 90's

my iPod is a hodge podge of goodies but the stuff that really hits me are the rock songs that were revolutionary for their time.

i like metalica or any rock station i can get to actually play music haha it seems its always commercials but yeah gotta love older metalica came a little before i was born but i love it gets me pumped ha my dad comes out if im working on it at his house and always unplugs the radio

Depends on the task.

For basic grunt work, like rust removal, metal prep, welding, grinding, bondo, cleaning … : The Cars, ELO, Squeeze, Van Halen, Molly Hatchet, Eminem, Beck, Björk, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Winwood, Psychedelic Furs, Pat Benatar, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, BareNaked Ladies, Dave Matthews … (apparently the list never ends).

For finish painting, and any kind work or diagnostics that requires actual thought: Zero 7, Jean Michel Jarre, Andreas Vollenweider, Bruce Cockburn

When working on/driving the mustang, I listen to oldies/classic rock.

Otherwise, I listen to just about anything except rap/hip hop, new country (have ladies at work that listen to hip hop & country and I don't change the station, but I pretty much ignore it).

I like rock/oldies, swing/jazz/big band (including Glenn Miller ), show tunes, classical/marches (99% of the time when I hear a march being played somewhere like on a move/tv soundtrack, I've played it before), older country, some 80's stuff, a little of the newer pop stuff (but not much), some blues, acapella (Swingle Singers are cool), spoof/parody/novelty music (a la Dr. Demento). Heck, I even have a folder of marching band mp3's.
