Hey all, I've decided that for my 18th birthday im going to completely build my car. (e.i. internals, supercharger, drivetrain) I have a list of things that i want to do but would like to get your opinions on my setup, let me know if i have anything missing ect. Also what kind of horse power do you think i could get out of it, i hoping for around 500, what do you think. here is what i have so far

Engine:

Billet rod/Forged pistons

VT custom Billet cams

BBK Ceramic Coated L/T's
http://modularpowerhouse.com/produc...id=56&osCsid=169fabb58f77368d065dd6eb27fc854d

Drivetrain:

Spec Stage 3 Clutch
http://modularpowerhouse.com/produc...id=37&osCsid=169fabb58f77368d065dd6eb27fc854d

Spec Aluminum Flywheel
http://modularpowerhouse.com/produc...id=39&osCsid=169fabb58f77368d065dd6eb27fc854d

31 spline Strange axles
http://modularpowerhouse.com/produc...d=118&osCsid=169fabb58f77368d065dd6eb27fc854d

I also need brakes, 4.10's and roll cage. Think I can stay within my 15000 budget? I will be doing all the work with a few friends so i didnt count any labor. I also decided that i would do everything but the s/c and properly break in the engine for awhile and then after that put the s/c in. TIA for you opinions- Steven

15 grand b day presesnt .. and are you sure you can do all that work?? if i had that kind of money i would def. get it all installed by somebody, since most of it has to come out for other parts anyways, its a big do it once job. Everything you listed..imo.. is some of the best parts you can buy for that area, but to pull that kind of job there are SO many things to consider, from which oil pan, to wwhos tuning it.. i hope u get some real help, and can pull it all off

and 500 rwhp, 18 years old. come on man, im 18 myself, and i know what 500 rwhp is, and believe me you dont want it. and u dont wana do all that work either.

I'm not far from your age man, though surely you can think of something better to spend that kind of cash on.

You have a full-ride to college? Education will definitly be nice to put money towards.

Dude, seriously, just put the 15,000 in an IRA or something smart. Maybe put 4k into a blower kit, but dont blow that much money as an 18 year old, its stupid.

I'm 18 also, go to college. Don't blow 15 grand on a gt, do something smart with that cash, like investing it.

+1 for the college thing

then once youre out, get yourself a real sports car with all that money you will be making from your nice career

(for the record i am 20 and going to college, rather than dumping 15k into my whip, which is very tempting)

just remember how young we are, there is always time to get something better and a LOT faster

youre the exception rather than the rule but thats awesome youre able to make that much at our age!

id have to say that if your going to put in 15k in a stang, you better have another 15k incase something happens...

Hey man i would have to agree with most everyone else and the college thing im 21 and about to graduate with an engineering degree. I was in a similar same situation when i was 18 but my mother only let spend 1500 on my car and the rest went to school. I would have to say that yea my car only has alittle more than stock HP but the whole experience of college was worth way more that 15000. And my expected income will allow me to have not just a 500 hp stang, but many other toys also.

Just some food for thought.

But that list looks really good, but i would trade up to a cobra.

Again just my .02

If the 15k is easy to come by now, you should be able to pull it off again in a few years. I'm giving another +1 to higher education, so you can have something to work towards while you are in school. Put up a poster of some crazy 1000+hp twin superturboNOScharged Cobra in your dorm, and everytime you think of buying $15,000 worth of beer for a college party, you might change your mind, and invest in torque for the future.

I cannot tell you how long I've been contemplating whether or not to modify my '04. I would like to lower it, change the grill, exhaust, etc... All for a few thousand dollars.. It's not like I don't have the money, it is actually my common sense telling me not to.

Currently, my car is worth approx $20k (if that).. why put even more money into it? ESPECIALLY 15 grand!

Dude, I'm 21.. every paycheck I earn goes into savings (most of it).. Maybe in 5 years when my car takes a d*mp I'll buy a new one..

As others have said, invest the money. CD's are about 5.4% right now.. money market accounts are pretty damn close.. This way, you can look back in 5 years and pat yourself on the back for not blowing your bank account on a depreciating car..

Also, your barely 18.. Obviously you haven't been driving too long.. Why make your car insanely fast just to get yourself killed?

My last suggestion- 15 grand will get you one heck of a vintage mustang that will appreciate in value and get a lot more looks on the road, as well as, well, other things from chicks...

Good luck.. just don't blow it ..

you're 18...invest the money instead of wasting it on mods or a cobra. Then, after you get out of college, you can actually buy a really nice car.

p.s. dont waste your time/money "investing" in CDs like posted above. your real rate of return is only going to be ~2% You're young, so put it into some aggressive growth mutual funds.
