Does it take a lot of surgery to do it? Is that the tranny that requires the bell housing, clutch fork and different length driveshaft? ARGH!! Now that I think about it, I think it is!

Yes it does. The bell housing has to be changed, the drive shaft has to be lengthened or just by a spacer steeda sells them. I don't know about the clutch fork tho

Why? If your gonna go through the trouble of a Tranny Swap then might as well for over a few more hundred bucks and get a T-56

I thought about that but the T-56 is more expensive, heavier and requires even more more work to install. I would be paying a shop to do it so labor time is a consideration. Plus, I don't think it comes with any 1st gear ratio in the 3.x range. That would make my 3.55 too tall for my power level (240hp) If I was doing the work myself, I would definitely go with a 2.97 T-56 and 4.30 ring & pinion

Thanks man I am leaning towards that choice.

wytstang - The fork has to be changed for either 3550 or the T-56. I think it's the 3550.

TKO's are more of a drag Tranny. The reason that the T56 make your car slow is beacuse the weight and, with the clutch and such, you need more power to utilize (sp) the whole tranny to its full potential. Also for a street car, the T56 is better because of the gears. Personaly, i would drop at Viper T56 and then get a blower. Thats what i want to do...

Both very strong trannys. If you have the power, i would go with a T56, if you dont have the money, the TKO is just as good.

I have had a stage II TKO for four years, and have been happy with it. Because of the forged gears, 5th is a little noisy. For a viper spec T-56, you are looking at much more money. You need a new clutch fork, as well as a driveshaft spacer and TKO bellhousing. As far as pricing for the new generation TKO's, I couldn't tell you. If you have a geared mustang that will see freeway use at illegal speeds, you will need the 6th gear from the T-56. Otherwise, the TKO will be awesome.

That's a common misconception. Unless you buy the Viper spec T-56, the top gear ratio isn't significantly lower than a TKO600 (0.64 on the TKO600, 0.62 on the T-56). What you get with the six speed is closer ratios.
