What does the "SN" in SN95 mean?

What does that SN mean? Also, why have I ever only seen 95 there? If it talks about our specific body style, there is also 94-98. So why isn't that there? Was there something special about 95's, other than that was the last year for 5.0's in Mustangs? If anyone can shed some light on this, which I am sure many of you can, since I have seen it alot here, please do. Thanks in advance.

It's just a body style number and really does not have anything to do with the 95 model. The SN-95 platform is for cars that are 94-98 models.

I read somewhere that it was the body type and region - "Sport, North America"

i saw that the 95 was for the year 95 because that is when the new body style was suppoed to come out. no sure how correct that is.

everybody is sorta right. its FOMOCo internal designation for body style.Sport North american, Stang North American. techically its called the fox-4. fox 3 was the 87-93 body style based on a zepyr platform. new 05 model is called S197 i beleive.

I thought fox-4 was just the designation for the chasis, and the designation for the interior was SN-95.

SN95 (aka Fox-4), refers to the chassis (not sheet metal) for 94-04 Mustangs.

Oh, thanks guys. That makes sense. If anyone else wants to clarify other peoples opinions in here, by all means, do so. They were a little confusing, but for the most part, all the same. I new it had to do with the body style, I just didn't know it was a designation to the chasis. Thanks again.

SN - Sports car North America
95 - There are many different opinions about what this means. I think that the new chassis (Fox-4) wasn't supposed to debut until 1995, hence the 95.

I have also read that the 95 was for the year the car was suppose to first come out, but they released it a year earlier than anticipated.

94-03 models. the 99-03 mustangs share the same chassis as us.

I read that ford wanted to start the sn95 a few years earlier but the fox was such a money maker and the tooling was paid for so they kept it going like 3 years longer. that and are the 93- called sn93 so I think its the series of designs that it took not realated too anything year related at all.

95 has nothing to do with the year. It is merely a Ford internal design number.

Sport Car, North America, Design 95. It refers to all Mustangs, 94-04. The new Mustang (and chassis) is indeed S197 and is basically a shortened version of the same thing. Sport Car, Design 197. Further, the SN-95's are also referred to as Fox-4's and the previous (79-93) design were Fox-3's.

Actually, the S197 is has no relation to the Fox platform. It's a derivative (lighter version I hope) of the DEW chassis used for the Lincoln LS and I believe the Jaguar S-Type. They call it the "DEW light" because it has a more low-tech suspension setup (MacPhearson Struts & 3 link vs. the more expensive Double wishbone type that the LS and jag have)

i can find out probably, my family knows a guy who was one of the designers of our cars, believe it or not. hes an older man who lives in florida, i think he retired from ford but im not sure, i will try to check.

I don't believe I related it to the Fox . But yes, you are correct. The S197 is indeed a DEW chassis (which is also used on Mercs BTW), but to the best of my knowledge, the "S197" moniker is derived from the same pattern as "SN-95."

On on a seperate note, the Jags can keep their double wishbone. A Mustang with a 3-link/PHB rear?!? Yeah Baby! If we get a Mustang that can actually handle worth a damn, then it must be my B-day. Now if we could only get them to do something about the damn aero...

I mean really, is it so tough to drop that hood line 1"-2"???
