3.31's or 3.55's. Slap the 4.10's on and love life

i believe autos come w/ 331s and the manual trannys come w/ 355s. dont be afraid to go 410s unless you plan on putting on some kind of power adder. on my manual i get about 17/21 mpg. 373s are a good all around gear. i almost went with them but i decided to go w/ the 410s. (im now glad i did)

Ok i get 3.73s or 4.10s most of you say 4.10s. What is the cost benefit ratio with the gears what do I ge and what do I give up? Like if I get quicker acceleration does it adversly effect something else? If so what? Sorry to be a pain just want to do it right the first time.

What do you have? 5sp or auto? I say either way go with the 4.10's. Some people say that the 4.10's are to much for the auto but if its a 5sp auto what does it matter its the same as the 5spd stick.

You lose a little on the top end changing gears. I cruise at 80 @ around 2800-2900 rpm. Benifit there is you dont really have to downshift to pass or accelerate.

But if you havent done the cai+tune I would not do this yet because you will need the tuner to set your car up for the new gears.

4.10's - no regrets here. 60 mph = 2100 rpm's. 80 mph = 2800 rpm's. Highway mileage on my last road trip was 24 mpg (same as with the factory 3.31 gears). Spirited in-town stop-n-go driving averages 14 mpg (15 mpg with factory 3.31 gears). Car is much better feeling now on the street, and is quicker at the track.

First off what do you want to do with the car. Drag race or is the car use just going to be on the street? Spirited driving? Is your normal driving with the OD on or off? Is most of your driving in town or on the big road? What are your future mods going to be? Super or turbo charger? What is well suited for one is a disaster for the other. What size tires are you going to use? I have 4:10s with 305/18s Nittos out back and it is not the answer for everyone. With those tires my final ratio is about 3:85 I drive with the OD off and hammer the car at the lights. ( no tire spinning as the cops don't care much for that) I also take the car to the races. Know what you are doing before you lay down the 600+ coins. Just because someone here says 4:10s man does not make it the best choice for everyone. If you have to worry about MPG just leave the car as it is.
I have added a power adder and changing the ratio to 3:55. My car is an auto.

im going to go 4:10's when the time is right

first im doing tune + cai..

however i have a pair of drag radials that are taller than stock so at the track, my 355s dont cut it. the 4:10's will prob drop me down to 390-4.0 area.

good luck.

I have the 5 speed auto with 4.10s. I was able to get enough room out on the open road a few days ago to test high speed. I didn't wind her all the way out(in OD), but she did start to really struggle near 130 MPH(didn't notice the tach, but I'm sure it had to be up there in revs). That is all fine and dandy by me, since I don't care to drive much over 70-80 MPH max out on the streets at any given time and when I was at the track she trapped 104+.
