Ok so i was leaving autozone and when i turned the key to start the car it seemed like it was going to start when it stopped and then there was two really really loud sounds that came from what seemed to be the gas tank, it sounded like if someone took a hammer to a piece of metal and banged it twice, what was this sound should i be worried???

2003 GT Mustang 4.6 Fuel Pump Problem

I recently replaced my son's 2003 GT Mustang 4.6 fuel pump. The picture provided here is the actual fuel pump which I removed from his fuel pump module which is located inside the gas tank. From what you are saying, it sounds like your fuel pump burnt out just like the one in the picture. Click on the picture to make it larger. I believe there are two reasons for his fuel pump to burn out like this. I have a link on this subject elsewhere in this forum. If you are interested in hearing what I believe contributed to this problem, let me know. Good luck, Tommy.

2003 GT Mustang 4.6 fuel pump problem?

I am defenetly interested in knowing why this happened since i do believe that my pump is no good it has been acting up lately and i will deffenetly replace it and i dont want it to happen again

Ok, as I said I believe there are two reasons why my son's fuel pump burnt out. Reason-1: His gas gauge was not giving him accurate fuel level readings. When ever his gas gauge would read 1/4 tank, his engine would act up, die out. So, with a 1/4 tank reading, he was actually at an empty tank which he did not realize. Without gas in the tank, your fuel pump will over heat, and over a matter of time, burn out, because there is no gas in the tank to cool off your pump. Reason-2: If you have installed an after market radio, deck player, video player, amps etc. You need to check to see where the 12 volt feed was taken from. The diagram below is of the ignition switch for the 2003 GT Mustang. If you look at the diagram you will notice that there are 6 circuits that the switch supports. I have high-lited 2 of the 6 circuits in red, the other 4 in green. You need to make sure that any of the items I mentioned above is not tied into the red color circuits. Specifically the two 13-12 circuits. The reason is, your Constant Control Relay Module, which supports your Fuel Pump Relay, is tied into these two red circuits. Notice where the Ford Motor Company has their radio tied into. They have it tied into the 13-10 and 13-15 circuits. So, if any of those items I mentioned above is tied into the two red circuits, it will deprive your fuel pump circuit of the voltage it needs to operate properly, again, causing the fuel pump to overheat and burn up. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find. I'm very interested in your findings. Hope this helps. Good luck, Tommy.

does that car have the variable flow pump? or whatever its called. or does it have the return system?
if its simple one wire 12v one wire G. then run a quick fused wire back there to see if the pump turns on. thatll let ya know if it works or not. if it has the variable pressure pump then get your pressure checked... but it sounds like you dont have any pressure to begin with. so

I beleive his 2003 GT Mustang does not have a return fuel line!

I believe his gas tank looks like the one in this picture, which has no return fuel line. Just the one main fuel line identified by the red circle. Hope this helps.

Should i get a SVT focus fuel pump instead of a stock mustang one, iv herd of alot of people do this but im not quit sure if it was because there car called for more fuel or if its just a good idea? Would i benefit from doing this iv looked and both pumps are around the same price

my 03 GT is a returnless fuel system

Use of the Ford Focus Fuel Pump Module?

I have read that alot of people are using it. If I remember correctly, I think I read that it pushes more fuel. As long as it bolts up the same way, it may be ok. I never used it so I can't really tell you what the benefits are. Good luck, Tommy.

Ford Focus Fuel Pump?

So if it pushes more fuel would i be running rich???

I would think not. Your fuel pressure regulator if working properly is adjusted to send only a certain amount of fuel through your fuel rail. I guess the Focus fuel pump is for those who are heavy on the gas pedal. For those who love to spin their tires. If that is not what you are after, perhaps you should stick to the stock pump. Good luck!

Ford Focus Fuel Pump Update!

Check out Ebay Item number: 350156152449 Looks like guys who run Superchargers, Turbo's or Nitrous, use the Ford Focus Fuel Pumps. Hope this helps. Good luck, Tommy.

i wouldnt run the focus pump i did the same and found out that the focus pump will suck the gt bucket dry i was running lean with my vortech and went to an 03 cobra set up easy swap but keep the tank above 1/4 or the gas will "slosh" in your tankand suck the pump dry if. if u wanna add a poweradder to your car in the future the 03-04 cobra pump is the way to go. but if you use the focus pump i heard guys would drill 1/2" holes in that gt bucket so the fuel draw keeps up with the pump but the cobra pumps can support over 500 hp its an easy swap but if you go with that the clips in the gt tank that hold the bucket in the tank need to be yanked out and it will go in with out a problem

99and up are a returnless fuel system there is no fuel pressure regulater and you dont have to worry about running rich but i suggest spending the $ and get the 03 cobra assembly ( new fuel hat, dual pumps , and the pump brackets ) make sure you have a good set of fuel line removal tools (not the junk you find a pepboys they will break ) leslie makes a good set of them with an angled handle and they pop off no prob the pump assembly goes for about 350 but u can find them on ebay sometines for 200$ its plug and play minus the tank modification to accomidate the assembly i hope this helps you out
