I have a 92 AOD with 3.55s. Sometimes when I drive and the car shifts, I get this loud and violent jolt. It happens more so when I am traveling at low speeds. It seems to be coming from the rear. The car jolts so bad that I actually move inside if you know what I mean. Is this my tranny going or is this what I can expect with gears in the car? It does not happen all the time, but it freaks me out when it does happen.

And you have had the shift kit for a bit with no similar symptoms?

When I used to have my 87 auto 5.0, after a while it would kinda jolt when it would shift or going neutral to reverse, or drive, turned out to by my u joints on my driveshaft, but your problem might just be that you have a shift kit. My car was stock at the time.

My brother had an auto camaro that did that pretty hardcore, (he now has a 5.0 thanks god) it turned out to be a bad tranny mount.

Look at the following things:

1) U-joints
2) Tranny mount
3) Out of balance D/S

If you notice the jolt only when your getting on the car hard, then the above 3 things are most likely the cause. If it happens all the time..... better look at your torque boxes.

It does not happen when I drive the car hard. It is when I am going at low speeds. I will give the car a little gas and hold it and it seems like it is waiting to go to the next gear and when it does it jolts. I am almost coasting when it happens so I am not driving it hard at all.

I would have to see it in person to really tell but I am guessing but transmout, and motor mounts would be one place I would look at first, then the rear control arms then possible the U joints, lastly the transmission.

Can you reach under there and feel if you have excessive play in the Driveshaft?

I had a Ranger that did the same thing that you are describing. It would 'clunk' when I was taking off from a stand still at low speeds... Turned out to be the Driveshaft was out of balance.

Sounds like a shift kit too me.....are you complaining? You might have a broken mount, gear slap, or somthing, but if that all checks out, then the shift kit is too blame IMHO. You could try to back off the harshness by installing accumulators and springs or go as far as installing the OEM spacer plate. But that would be lame
