Hello, I am new to this forum. I recently acquired a 64 1/2 mustang convertible. it has a 289 (not original) I want to have power steering installed. I have seen a few kits. which is the best one to get? Thanks in advance for your input.

I usually avoid kits (price, choices) as too expensive and somebody else has pre-selected the components.
I come HERE (well, 'sites') as the guys can tell me what Y/M/M swap ins that up-grade. I just have delivery by 1 of the big box auto stores (autoZone, advance, etc). On other hand a kit is all pre-assembled (often w/hardware too).
I do not have a 289 so will B of lill help. I would say get rid of any round ford pump. They are not durable. I use a 'canned ham' the saginaw (gm) pump. Neighbor hada Rolls "Come over'n C." Asked to open the hood I saw 1 of these. "Y?" said. Him: "U can't improve on the best." The bracktry might B hard (CJphony? LMR?). I have plenty spare for my 1st gen bronk but still hada cut/weld. Belt? easy. Hoses - local sno plow sales co (some NAPAs). Later model falcon, stang/fox body for the ster gear.
Borgeson power box with the Saginaw "P" pump or an EPS. Electric Power Steering. Stay away from original power steering or anyone trying to sell you original assist steering parts.

@chrisful Translate please.. @John Clark Last fall I installed the Borgeson system on a 1970 Mustang. The system performs well and is good and tight. A word of advice, get the kit for your year of Mustang and engine size. All of the parts needed will be in the kit.
People with 1967 Mustangs have to be careful of which kit that they order because of some mid year production changes.

These days electric power steering that installs under dash is pretty popular as well. I think you can buy the kits for about $1500...or go the DIY way, supposedly some people manage it for about $300 that way using a unit from a Toyota or Saturn. EPAS is the way I would go myself...simply to avoid any more engine bay clutter.
