What is the best turbo for an 88 turbocoupe?

The turbo I have is off an 85 SVO and is oil cooled and has shaft play, are the watercooled ones better? Lots of turbos on ebay, I found one that looks good, what do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8005983478&fromMakeTrack=true

Engine is basically a stock 88 turbocoupe engine, I don't know what size turbo I should run, new to the turbine and trim sizes and not sure what I should look for. Thanks for the help!

Most around here run the T3 style turbo, and some even upgrade to a Dodge Cummins diesel turbo (I believe HY35). The T3 can go along way in terms of power output. With a stock engine, the T3 will work well.

You don't want that ebay turbo, period.

A stock turbo will be great for 95% of the people...

Water cooled is no better than oil only.

Oh, and all turbos have shaft play...if the wheel doesn't touch the housing, it's fine (don't force it over trying to make it touch, you'll ruin it).

So a turbo of an 85 not an 85.5 svo is just as powerful as an 86 svo turbo?

Yes, all 2.3 Turbos got the same T3 turbo from 83-89 (SVO, TC, Merkur, Etc.) except the 87-88 TC which got a smaller IHI turbo.

Not Ebay turbos, just SSAutoChrome turbos and any of their products. Everything they sell is JUNK!!!! There are many, many threads over at www.turboford.org attesting to the shoddy construction, and inferior materials of their turbos, headers and various other products.

Bottom line is................stay away from anything produced by SSAutoChrome!!!

first off stay away from ssautochrome. i just bought that same turbo for my LX.I payed 7 for it With a .60 turbine houseing so it spool's quicker. with less lag............it should handle 500 hp but a stock 2.3 should handle 350-400hp. obeviously you know you gonna need a better manifold,intercooler bigger injectors and a bigger exhaust with that turbo or gains will be small.
