What is the vacuum stuff behind the pass strut tower

Hey guys, I would like to know what is all the vacuum and sensors and stuff behind the passenger side strut tower? My car is not going to be street driven, does not need to pass emissions, has no smog or egr, do I really need all that crap back there or what can I do with it? What have you guys done with it? It is a mess back there and most of the hard plastic lines have broken right at the connector so its hard to even put rubber lines on em.

Junk

You can remove all of it. The top valve is for the EGR valve and the bottom two control canister function. If you are still useing the fuel injection you may want to leave the charcol canaster at the front right of the engine bay just hook it to a vacume source on the intake.

Myers must have a set-up like I've not seen before.

Nick, your set-up will be different. Based upon what you said, you could remove the EGR solenoid and the TAD and TAB solenoids.

I removed it all... now that I'm carbed in my 86' 5.0.

Ok, trying this another way:

The EVAP solenoid (there's only one) is by the cannister.

The AIR solenoids are on the strut tower.

i ripped all mine out and threw it away haha, just make sure you cap all the lines at the vacuum tree cuz if i remember right one or two go back there

OK, thanks for the info guys. I am staying EFI though, can I just leave the plugs unplugged no problem? Will I get any error codes? There's also a vacuum line that comes through the firewall on the passenger side, and also the vacuum ball inside the passenger fender, can those come out too? Thanks.

One more thing, how badly will my car smell like gas if I were to remove the charcol canister? Its not a weight thing but I broke the vacuum nipples off the solenoid at the canister and its not repairable and and I dont want to spend the money for a new solenoid, and it would also look cleaner w/o it. Car will only be driven a few times a month but will it make it unbearable when I do drive it?

The vacuum line that goes into the firewall and the canister in the fender is for the HVAC controls. They are used to make the different vents work.

The line going into the firewall is for the HVAC.

You could throw Smog and EGR codes.

An old throught from JRichker: If you park near a gas appliance (water heater, etc) and have the EVAP system open, gas fumes and a pilot light might not play nice.

hmm well I dont plan on parking next to a gas appliance but I dont like safety hazards, what if I ran the charcoal cannister and just hooked up the vacuum line from the tank, and the one going out to the intake manifold with no purge solenoid or anything, could I get away with that?

Pulling constant manifold vacuum on the EVAP system is not a good idea IMHO.

OK, I guess I will replace my solenoid and keep the cannister, so say I have no a/c, and no egr, but want to keep the cannister, which of the things behind the passenger side strut can I remove? And can I remove the big ball thing or what is that for?
