What is this - AOD?

Hey,
I just purchased an AOD from an 89 Grand Marquis for my 87 Crown Vic 351W motor in my 68 stang. There is a small "electric plug" on the top of the AOD on the driverside main body. What is this thing and did I make a mistake?

If it's above the shifter arm and it's pointing up then it's the Neutral Safety Switch. Hopefully it came with the plug. This is where you'll splice your old wires to make the Neutral Safety Switch funtional and also the back-up lights for when you shift into reverse.

This does NOT make your trans an AODE.

It's supposed to be a muppet-like creature that's head bangin, but I guess it may be hard to tell what it is. I may have to find something else.

That's Flat Eric from an advert for Levis (I think). Was on TV every ad break over here about three or four years ago, and the tune got to number one in the charts.
