What is this thing on my wifes 93LX. What does it do?

it looks like a brake proportioning valve to set the bias on the brakes to favor the front or rear

I agree on the proportioning valve statement, but what's it doing on the passenger side of the engine compartment?

don't matter where it is installed does it...it would still do the same job I would think

that's where it's supposed to go. it's a brake prop. valve like said above

It's an aftermarket component. It's not OEM. Typically when the brakes of a Fox mustang are modified, one is installed in this location to adjust pressure to the rear brakes.


Has this car had it's brakes modified? Sn95 upgrade? 5-lug? Or stock rear drums?

Thanks for all the comments... Yes the brakes have been upgraded by the previous owner.

Interesting. Anytime I've seen an aftermarket proportioning valve installed, it was installed near the master cylinder. Good to know for future reference!

Mine has a rear disk conversion and my adjustable valve is in the same exact spot.

That is where baer kits and SS brake corp say to install it..

I've seen plenty of them there also. It seems like a good place since theres a coupling there. Easy to swap out.
