Well I brought home an ‘88 LX 5.0/5spd yesterday that was sitting in a neighbors yard. Shes got good bones for the beginning of a long term cruiser project that I’ve been wanting to do since I sold my last fox ~ 20 years ago.

Today after work I spent a few hours going through everything, cleaning out the leaves and muck, washing it, starting to understand just how deep of a hole I’m in, etc. I’m the process I noticed the moon roof trim metal is totally roached. Rusted through and flaking off.

I can’t readily find any replacement kits, and what little research I’ve done kinda tells me I need to fork over a bunch of cash or get lucky on marketplace. But before I start hunting I figured I’d ask the net and see what people are doing these days.

I forgot to take pictures of the glass trim, but here are a few random ones I snapped because who doesn’t like pictures? (The exhaust was dragging on the ground when I bought it, the photo was to show the wife we’re “already making progress” :rlaugh:)

If you are talking about the moonroof itself, then there are no commercially available repair kits for that. Need to source down a good used one. Unfortunately they aren't cheap these days for a good clean one. One of those parts where folks never cared for them and scrapped cars without pulling them. Now there is just more demand than supply of moonroofs out there.

Unmolested cars are hard to find now, yours looks promising, are you talking about the metal trim around the sunroof glass and not the channel it sits in right?
Yes the metal trim. I’ve been able to find the WS kits on LMR and similar but the glass / metal seems to be the lynchpin.

And yeah this one’s fairly clean. A little more rust than I anticipated but I mean the cars almost 40 years old so that’s to be expected . Just started acting up today so I may have to put a pin in the cosmetics and dig into the mechanics sooner than i wanted to.
