what kind of supercharger

i need to figure out what kind of superchager to buy for my 03 mustang i can spend about 2000-4000 not including install links would greatly be appreciated

Popular choices in the price range:

- Mongoose Kit
- Kenne Bell (a little pricey)
- Procharger
- Novi
- Vortech

The Mongoose seems like the rising popular choise now-a-days

Where ya located? Here in NJ i got a price from La Rocca's (Englishtown/Old Bridge, NJ) for a Procharger running 8 or 9psi of boost with a 3 core intercooler, including parts and labor + gauges + tune for $6,250-$6,500 all said and done.

located in chicago, IL do you think it will be ruff on my car to put one on it auto and only mods are to exhaust

rough? no. I'd recommend an aftermarket torque converter for your Auto trans. But nothing wrong with superchargring your auto car...as long as you have a good tune.

I vote Mongoose. It is a great kit. Easy to install and the tune is the best.

Vortech FTW. Sister in law had a SQ in her 02 with an auto. She ran pretty good with a tune. my bro and her installed themselves saved some $$

LaRocca installed mine.Did a real hack job. Scratched polished blower,did some other damage,ran like crap.They could not care less. I would stay away from them.

Don't mean to steal the thread....but did you guys have any problems tapping the oil pan for the Vortech S-trim? What problems did you run into, and did you need any special tools? How long did the install take?

No it doesn't take that long to tap the oil pan. Although you do want to use some sort of pipe dope on the threads since the oil will leak if you don't. In the instructions Vortech did not advise using it but I have noticed that other manufacturers do except for the pipe thread material.

The total install took about 10-12 hours for the Vortech system. If tapping the tap seems daunting have a shop do it then complete the rest. It's what I would do if I had to do it over again.

Hey 03 GT, I live in palatine and i want to install the same thing as you on my 02 GT so let me know where you plan on going for parts and install. Mainly install. If your interested there is a shop in schaumburg called speed inc. They do a decent job from what i've heard.

I don't think you can get a new Kenne Bell for that cheap. I just dropped $5600 for mine and I'll be doing the install myself.

for that price I would do KB 6psi or mongoose. I like the KB stuff because of the flater boost curve and it replaces the plastic intake.

all things being equal the KB give you more average power hence you car will be faster if setup properly. it is a bit more money though.

they are both nice products. As for tune you will really want to veryify any tune on a boosted car to be perfectly safe.

You're right... he can get a non-intercooled 6psi for around $3800. They're stating 106hp increase with it. And it's upgradable for intercooler and bigger pullys. And no tapping the oil pan.

I'm no expert though.

My 9psi intercooled Kenne Bell was just over $5000, and that included $160
to ship it. I am quite impressed and can't wait to install it. But I have a trip
to make this weekend and didn't want to be in the middle of installing it and
not have my car for this drive. The weather should be excellent for the top
to be down. Love this vert.

I'm thinking, I can do it in one day. I changed out my manifold in 4 hours so... maybe two days at most (with lot's of beer).

probably 2 days and beer. you have to remeber you have boost a pump, gauges to wire up. little things that will take a bit more time.

I can see getting the supercharger on in a day though.
