I bought a used 01 GT with about 85k miles on it. Currently I get about 17-18mpg in the city and 20 on the freeway, eventhough its an Automatic I think thats kind of horrible MPG for a mustang since it only has had 40s flows installed and eibach suspension (no gas guzzling mods).

What would you guys recommend doing for improve gas mileage? fuel filter maybe?

Changing the fuel filter never hurts. Change the oil & filter if that hasn't been done recently. The air filter too. Also if the spark plugs haven't been changed you may check them. Just a basic tune up makes a world of difference.

Don't expect better than 20mpg mixed driving. I think the best I ever got in my car when it was stock and brand new was 24mpg. If you want gas mileage a V8 wasn't the right choice.

But yeah, plugs, oil change, fuel filter, and dump some seafoam in the gas and suck some in through the PCV or another vacuum line before you change the oil to remove some gunk.

Im highly impressed with the mileage I get...... which is always 19mpg or
better on the highway. Most V6's dont get that. I was getting 17 or 18mpg
before I added my x pipe...... then it got even better.

check your tire pressure, air up. Less rolling resistance is a good thing.

The things that will help mileage most are air up your tires, clean/replace the air filter, and replace the fuel filter. These are easy, cheap things to do. Of course, an oil and filter change should also be done. Other things you should probably do (if they haven't been done recently) are flush and refill the coolant, change the transmission fluid and filter, and maybe replace the spark plugs.

yep,I was getting 25.6 pretty regular on the freeway and 18 to 19 mixed driving, before the supercharger, cam and gears now I am lucky to get 11.

I did not buy a gt for gas mileage. if that was my only criterea(sp?), i probably would not have even bought a mustang

Cleaning out the throttle body wouldnt hurt either if it has some carbon buildup.

People always say to me how fuel economy must suck in a mustang...but seriously I really just dont care. I love my car. Its a daily driver and sure it goes through some gas, but atleast I can have fun with it. There are MUCH worse things to drive around for fuel economy than a mustang anyway...

honestly i say use the gas while its still cheap enough to burn like that. the price is only going up from here.

enjoy the true american pony car while its still somewhat economical to do so.
