I have a friend getting married in July and my fiance and her friends are dropping over $200 on a coach bag for the bride-to-be. I've decided it would only be fair to get my buddy something for his mustang. He has an 03 Mach that is stock except for a Stinger cat-back. I was thinking of a short-throw, but is there anything better for the $200 range? Thanks for any ideas.

IMO no, there is no better first mod for a latemodel mustang than a shifter, if it is driven hard it will help protect the VERY weak tremec shift forks, (I know i'm on my 3rd t-45 in 20,000mi. because of bent shift forks) and the feel is SO much better than stock.

with the money left over you should get him a K&N

Hey Zinc... my birthday is coming up... mind getting me a shifter too

Seriously though... that would be a great present for your buddy. I wish my friends would by mods for my car.

Id either go with gears or a shifter. However a shifter just feels nicer.

I agree- a shifter is THE FIRST mod anyone should make to their stangs. It makes such a huge difference- it doesnt even feel like the same car afterwards. GET ONE!! hehe

Pro 5.0 or Tri Ax, you can't go wrong with either!

I LOVE MY HURST and so did Tim at T&Js , when he was dynoing my car and changing the gears , he was like what the F*k kind of shifter is this , these dam gears are CLOSE as all get up . When I told him it was a hurst I think he bout choked , I think he was pleasantly surprised . YEA HE LIKED IT lol . but anyway , brand is personal preference , my favorite three in order of how much I like them since I have drove mustangs with all kinds in them are

HURST
PRO 5.0
B&M

triax and UPR are decent too , just not my preference .

Thanks for all the suggestions...I hadn't thought of gears, but with install and speed cal it may be a bit too much (unless his Porsche mechanic brother will install for free ). I was thinking of the Kona racing Pro 5.0 housing and Kona shift handle combo. He likes my Pro 5.0, but I know he would want a longer handle. I'll talk to his brother and see about the gear install. I can do the shifter myself, so that's no problem. The gift is actually from a few of his friends. We all have muscle cars (5 mustangs and one camaro ) and we all chip in on birthdays and such to get each other mods in the 100-150 price range.
