I am replace all the steering stuff on the car. I found the plug in the steering box and took it out. It looked like old grease in there. So I thought I would fill it up with whatever goes in it. Is it regular type grease or somekind of gear oil??
Thanks
Bud

My Ford Manual says "C3AZ-19578-A" lube for manual steering, which I think is gear oil, but I'd cross reference it first to be sure. Last time I filled one was on a Chebie and it used gear oil for it's steering box, but them again, I'm old.

My Haynes manual says to use hypoid gear oil in the steering gear housing (manual and power) not to be confused with the power steering pump if you have power steering. The Haynes manual gives Ford Specifications as ESW-M2C105-A.

Thanks guys. From what I have found out, its suppose to be grease. The gear oil is suppose to run out the pitman seal. Whats in it looks like old grease. Its not street driven so I think the grease will be fine. Sure dont want no gear oil leaking in front of a slick. :nonono:

Thanks
