All 4.0s are prone to that problem if not properly maintained. When they are properly maintained they'll go 150,000+ miles before any hint of chain noise and another 20k or so before it's critical in most cases.thank you soooooooo much
I was thinking only the older ones still had that rear timing chain going bad
Nope. No room between the back of the engine and the firewall to get to the plugs you need to remove to get to everything. I've done the rear chains in an Explorer and a Mustang, both times the engine had to come out.cant you just pull the trani and get to the rear chain?
All years of the 4.0 sohc are prone to thermostat housing failure. It's more common in the truck and SUV applications because they run hotter, but they show up in Mustangs from time-to-time as well. Thanks guys, Mirage ,what year was your car with the thermostate housing problem?

anything else? like water leaking into the cabin?
Really durable. I've never personally seen a failure on them in a Mustang, even on beat-to-hell trade-ins. I have heard of them failing on modded cars though.man thanks, ,that was real good!!!
