Well its almost ready and i am wandering what it should do in the 1/8, 1/4, hp?

that's a lot of lift on that cam. That 289 should scream..
My guess is in the high 12's

I hope its faster then high 12's. the old motor- 289 stock heads( big valves and pocket port, flat top pistons and 512 lfit cam ran 13.2x

you're gonna have to rev it, but it should really be a runner up top. With the 4:30's, I'd wager12.6-7, with more gear and a victor jr intake it might dip into 11's. There is/will be a lot of time hidden in your chassis setup.

On a side note, my coupe wieghed 2790 lbs w/o me in it, and its setup alot like yours. ????

That was the weight with the old motor and me in it. I weigh about 250. Need to slim up myself.

Now it has alum heads(-60-70lbs) but had a 4 pt put in for chassis flex so that prob cancels it out. It has fiberglass hood and decklid and full interior with procar seats that weight about 45 lbs each.

I plan on revving it to 7k rpm depending on where it will be the faster. 1st pass with be 6100(where i shifted the old motor) and work my way up to 7k.

I dont plan on going to 4.56 gears because i still do drive it on the street to cruize. Short term plans are a victor jr intake and a elec water pump.

Your suspension will definitly be holdiong you back, so i say mid 12's

That's a lot of cam for a 289. When I built my 347 it had a .570 lift 240/249 solid roller cam and I hated it on the street. 4" vacuum at 1000 rpm and it stayed lumpy until about 2000 rpm. Pulled hard above 3000 but even with 4.11 gears it wasn't much fun stoplight to stoplight. Had it reground to 236/236 with the same lift and it is much better.

And you've got that much cam in a 289. Should still be making power at 7000 rpm and you are gonna need to rev it that high. For optimum quarter mile times you will probably need more rear gear. Maybe something like 5.00.

It's going to be really, really sluggish below 3500. You are going to have to do a lot of clutch slipping to get it to spin the tires on the street.

I would have to think mid 12's or better if you were running cast heads before and were going 13.2x's. My mild 289 turns 13.8x's. What was your mph w/ the old build? Did you have any wheelhop issues? I just weighted mine at track with me in it and it was #2990. I'm barely a buck fifty myself. I'm very interested to see what she runs. I have some 165 AFR's to go on hopefully over the summer. Your 289 will still be much more aggressive than mine. Keep us posted..

Sounds like your cam didnt have enough lift for the duration. Were u in an automatic or standard. I drove it a cpl miles the other night and it seemed to do fine putting around.

No wheelhop issues. The rear suspension is the mustangs plus 5 leaf kit with sway bar. I also have regular traction bars. the mph was 102.xx. My 1/4 mile time was a 13.27 with a 8.46 1/8mile and a 1.86 60'. Since then i got the car to runa 1.80 60' and a 8.35 in the 1/8 th but never got to run it in the 1/4 before pulling the motor.

The old motor was a 293( 289 30 over), 512/512 lift cam 290 adv dur*( not sure of dur at .05) solid flat tappet, roller rockers, cast flat tops with 4 valve reliefs, unport rpm air gap, same headers, no roll bar and a hurst comp plus shift.
btw the cam, lifters, and pistons are for sale.

Not sure of the valve size but they where the biggest you could cut into a 289 head, and had a pocket port.

What can are you running. My old cam would love some afr 165's

Besides going 4 link what are some things i could do to help suspension? I planned on 6 cyl front springs, roller perches and adjustable drag shocks for front and rear.

why?

Its worth somewhere around 3-4rwhp.

my guess is 330-340rwhp so that leaves you with some low 7.40s @ 94 and thats roughly 11.50s-11.60s.

7000 rpm on belt driven water pump, with heater core hooked up is just asking for trouble, plus less stress on the crank is always good.

suit yourself I guess . . .

the guy who owns the shop I work at has a 86 notch with a 393, super victor, ported victor jrs etc.

It has a stock alternator and water pump and the limiter is set at 7200, which it has seen several times.

On the motor, the best run has been 6.18 @ 111 and on 275 it has been a 5.68 @ 121.

12.6 at 110.79 w/ a 1.90 60 ft. shifter at 6600. Next time i go out i will rap it to 7000 and see if it pics up any. Everything felt great except the launch, no weight transfer.

I have run a 1.80 60 ft before with the old combo so with practice on the new setup i should be able to get that back down.

future plans: cal tracs, drag shocks, 6 cyl front springs.
