With the 351W you can get by with most stock blocks. If you go 302 based the only stock block that can take that kind of abuse is the BOSS block. I've heard of the Mexican blocks taking 600 hp with std bore or .010 over but Ford claims that is just a legend. They are expensive and hard to come by tho. I paid $1100 for mine (see avitar).

You can put an 03 Cobra motor in, but get ready for the price to skyrocket!

i second that.. i work at a ford dealer and just for the hell of it we looked up a price on a complete assembly 03 corba motor.. i mean complete it's a direct drop in.. comes with drive belt already on the pulleys to the clutch and pressure plate.. includes blower and everything else.. just have to tighten motor mount bolts and connect harnesses and the motors in basically.. but the price was just over $14,000.. so its not worth it since you'll still have to make it fit into the engine compartment

How about the sportsman block? I want to stay 302 or 306 and be able to handle 500 horses with cracking. What's the cheapest block that can handle that? Oh, and I'm talking about forced induction.

Yes, a Sportsman will handle that power without grenading, but nobody makes a block like the DART Iron Eagle. They have the dedicated oil layout, and siamesed bores with correct sized water jackets. The Ford A4, Sportsman, etc all have smaller water jackets and tend to have reliability problems in a daily driver. They are fine for a (drag)race only car. A stock ford 302-351 block can handle 450HP safely with main support systems, but it's hit or miss whether the one you have will or not. More is pushing it big time, not that nobody has pulled it off. For a few hundred dollars you can have a block cryotreated to hold up under a little more stress, but in the long run if you want to run BIG power on a daily basis without problems, DART is the way to go.

well i hope my stock block with a main support will hold 500+ to the wheels when i go supercharged. DSS claims there 306 can take 600hp with their main support and my main support is actually thicker than theirs so im praying nothing happens.

Sorry to totally off topic....

But the '03-'04 Cobra motors are just so ****ing amazing....

Lemme digress..

X2C Motorsports LLC has created a kit:

A 88mm single turbo, a new 1 piece X2C sheetmetal intake with 3.1 inch runner length, gone is the factory garret intercooler, in is a larger spearco unit, we also increased the size of the exhaust tubing(primary and secondary). The engine remains untouched internally from the factory so (the valve covers were removed for powder coating) far in our quest to push this ford beauty to the limit. Some people may say why, we say "someones gotta do it" Anyway, here it is.

Thanks, shortly after the car was put together we were out testing and put it into the wall VERY hard, it is almost back together now and hopefully be at WFC, it ran 122 in the 1/8 before hitting the wall!!

Never used one, my current one is a chp and i added the main support myself. From what i heard (dss) is that they are mainly racing engines so their 347 will burn oil on you so its not necessarily an ideal street engine, unless you get the 331 which the oil ring doesn't intersect with the wrist pin. But if i was buying a new shortblock I'd either go with chp or dss. The dss is a season preped block which means its all ready been through its heat cycle and the metal has hardened, in theory a seasoned block is stronger than a brand new block, as metal heats and cools it becomes stronger.

Right. There's more to it than that though, metal (strange as it sounds) absorbs oil. A seasoned block has also soaked up as much oil as it is going to, and if there was a manufacturing defect it will have shown itself. D&D also have a top notch engine assembly, as does Speedomotive.

I really want to go with a good block for when i do the tt project. I don't want to step up in cubes though. I'm thinking the DSS 306/308 short block would be good.
