The round sleeve in the picture that the arrow is pointing to. It is swinging loose on the front end of the driveshaft. Obviously I need to remove it, but does it need to go back on? If so, is it worth repairing or should I just replace it with an aluminum driveshaft? Thanks.

Not for sure but looks like the sleeve to the yoke and yes, I would say that it needs to stay on but looks bad, so yes, Change to an aluminum driveshaft while there!

What purpose does this sleeve serve on the stock driveshaft? I don't see anything even close to it on the ford racing aluminum driveshaft.

Has anyone else here had this thing break loose on them? The car only has 65K miles on it, and who knows how long its been hanging there like that.

that is a harmonic dampener (usually on automatic trannys), if you take it off the cars will vibe more but it is not as bad as it just flopping. I second the al shaft

Thats what some friends said they thought it was. When I mentioned it to the local Ford service dept, they told me there was no such dampener on Mustangs with manual trannys. Guy looked at me like I was nuts. Looks like there's an aluminum driveshaft in my future. Thanks.

I can't see the pic, but I have a manual and that dampner came off on me. I just took it off till I got an aluminum one, it didn't vibrate at all with it off but I just kept the rpm's low while I had it off and I had no problem.

Yup that's what came off mine as well. Scared the **** outta me since I just had new gears in the car I just got the speedo gear to correct the speedo, so I was testing the car out and i heard a large thunk when I was doing roughly 110mph *cough*at the track*cough*. When I found out what it was I just undid the DS and slipped it off put the DS back on till I bought the aluminum one.
