I figured I would ask in the nw forums since the pricing seems to vary so much across the US.

I went and looked at an 87 GT today. It was for sale at an independant auto dealer. The guy has it listed as a 89, but the carfax came back as a 87.

it has 95,000 miles, starts up after a few seconds of cranking and sounds good with no misses, squealing, or smoke. The motor revs without stuttering. No obvious wrinkling in the inner fenders or mis alignment of of the fenders (looking to see if it was wrecked).

the paint is a defiant 20 footer. It has a few scuffs and quite a few rock chips in the front. There are also some door dings. The glass is intact with no cracks or big chips. The doors did not sag.

What I noticed was wrong with the car was.

door seals are pretty torn up. Interior is in pretty bad shape, seats worn, console cracked, door trim is warped and the speakers are missing covers. The stereo is an aftermarket that was shoddily put in. The original steering wheel is gone and replaced with a grant. The drivers seat also appeared to be broke, It had a lean to it and wiggled to much.
The trunk lock was punched out at one point, its missing but the sheet metal is not damaged. The car also has a squeal in the power steering pump, could be fluid, a belt, or more.

Is $3900 to much for a 87 GT with a manual? It would need a bit to get it looking nice. I have never been into the later models so I know nothing about thier problems or value.

anyways, thoughts opinions?

Going off your description I'd say its a little high. There sounds to be allot to fix in that car. Paint/ body alone not to mention the interior.
If there were a few things it would be ok but all that little stuff adds up fast.
Sounds like a shop fixed it up after a wreck.

there does not seem to be many 87-93 gt's around the eugene area that are not ratted out or obviously abused.

From your description, it sounds trashed.
I wouldn't give more than $1000.00- $1200.00 for it .
There are alot of nice Foxbody's around for less than that, that are in pretty good cond. Just my opinion.

Check out this 89 LX for example:~

Or this 88 LX:~

Or this 91 LX:~

I know where there is a really decent red with gray interior Notch with an AOD for $4000
Has gears, mini starter, new sensors, fresh trans, catback, new water pump, etc.

I saw this 5spd 5.0 on 30th & Willamette yesterday for $2200 in Eugene. The seller says it runs strong, and the body needs some attention. The interior was a mess also. If you're looking for a deal on a project car, you might want to look at it. I didn't look too closely, but it's not too expensive. http://eugene.craigslist.org/car/406437445.html

that car has been on CL for the past 4 or 5 months. Its carbed, I do not know if that is killing its selling potential. Or the fact the guy mentions its a gas guzzler. The price has bounced from $1800 to $2500.

My only reservation is if Oregon goes to a statewide emissions check, it would be a pita to convert back to fuel injection.

the guy pulled the CL add down on the GT I looked at today. I thought it was odd he removed it after I looked at the car. I gave him a lame excuse that I was going to talk to my wife about it. I really did not feel like arguiing price on something that I wouldnt buy anyways.

I am down from 7 vehicles to 5. I still need to get rid of one. But just in case any of you start siding with my wife. the 67, 73, and 66 f100 are all toys. If I buy a fox body, it will be a commuter

actually I have to replace my 92 accord, I sold it today. It was stolen around march and we have only had one reliable car since then. I am tired of being stuck at home all day when my wife has the car. I am sure she is tired of it as well.

Well, at least you can drive your "commuter" to the mustang meets in Friday nights! When you make a deal, I'm willing to give you a ride to pick it up.

that would be a bonus. I might take you up on the ride.

I need to go bug my wife about buying another mustang. I have learned something about my wife in the past ten years we have been married. She will cave if I pester her long enough.

I'd be afraid to write anything like that about my wife on the internet. If she saw it I would be toast! Forget the car, I'd be looking for a port in the storm!

I know where you can pick up a 91 LX hatch, white, black interior, 5 speed, a few mods. Here are a couple of pictures:
