I was starting to make preparations to pull the 5.0 out of my 1984 GT for a rebuild. Along the way, I was just offered a complete 5.0 out of a 1994 GT. This engine is complete right down to all accessories, fuel injection manifold, headers, distributor and wires, flexplate, etc. I know I will need a new distributor with a steel gear, my intake and carburetor, my 10-1/2" flywheel with a pilot bushing, but what about things like the water pump, accessories, oil pan, balencer, etc?

The front cover, water pump, pan, etc will all fit.

If you are carbed, you will need your front cover for the fuel pump mounting. You will have to use the fuel pump drive eccentric on the roller cam, or go to an electric pump. I think either works.

Good way to go. Also make sure you have a dipstick mounting provision. I used an early block with a late pan, neither had a dipstick hole....

Thanks, I have the side dipstick on my '84. Does the fuel pump eccentric bolt right onto the roller cam's timing gear?

Yes it does.

One other thing I have heard is different is the sending unit for the oil pressure. Apparently the voltage output is different between the fox and sn95s.

Did not know that. Will the alternator interchange into the '84 wiring harness?

Alternator on the SN (and up cars) will require you to change the wiring a little. The output of the newer alternator will probably be 160A (double that of your current piece) Wiring kits are available to make the switch easier (www.pa-performance.com). JRichker has a great write up on the wiring supplies needed to piece things together yourself.

How to wire a 3G in an 85 or earlier Mustang
cut and paste from an old post of mine...

There are 4 wires to the voltage regulator, cut the plug off the regulator, extend the 2 wires used to the alt and cap off the other 2

The F will not be used.
The I will not be used.
The S will go to the 3G
The A will go to the 3G

wiring on the 3g side

The Big post on the back goes to the solenoid, same side as the battery, a fuse is recommended on this wire, also up the wire size to 4ga minimum

Now for the 3 wire plug...wires A,S,I

A goes to A from the old external regulator
S goes to the stator connector on the 3G
I goes to S from the old external regulator
