What would it cost to build a 347?

I am in the process of doing some side work for an engine shop in exchange for a discount on a 347. I am trying to get a ballpark figure on what it costs them for the parts so that I can negotiate the best deal possible. Here are some of the key details on the motor:

- Machined 302 roller block
- Eagle Cast Steel Crankshaft
- Eagle I-Beam Brushed connecting rods
- Dart Aluminum Heads
- MSD Pro-billet distributor

Also, in your opinion what do you think the markup is on a turn-key engine from a professional shop?

Some stuff is marked up between 30-50%.I doubt they will sell you parts at their cost.Either way it probably wont be a "fair" deal.Is it a turnkey engine or long block???

I just got a Scat 331 Stroker kit with forged everything. My pistons cost a little more because I had to go with .040 over instead of .030 over. My kit cost right around $2000 shipped direct from Scat. The kit with .030 pistons was around $1600. I had my local machine shop bore the block from .030 to .040, clearance for the stroker, balance, and assemble the complete lower end and the labor was around $1200. Add the price of a good cam $150 to $250, Heads $800 to $2500, intake and carb $500 to $1500. That should give you a good start to an entire long block.

It will be a turn-key engine. Actually, if they hired consultants to come in and do the job that I am doing...the job could easily exceed $10,000 in labor. Obviously, I am not going to charge that much.

Originally, I was hoping to "swap" services. I would give them all the time that they need for me to complete the project and in turn they would give me all of their time. Therefore, leaving me with just the cost of the parts. However, if the profit margin on the engine is less than 50% then that may not be a good deal for me.

people assume a "side job" with cheap.regardless if you do the same type or quality of work, you probably wont get a $10,000 engine.CHP has a turnkey 427 stroker for 10,500 right now, so figure what you will get.
