I've been looking into what I need to port my heads. I'm down to the grinder. I've been looking around forever. It seems it's impossible to find an affordable electric (variable speed) grinder with a 1/4" collet that's not $150 or more. What's up with that? I have an air tank but its a tiny 4 gallon one so an air grinder is kinda out of the question unless I could find a 20(ish) gallon one for about $100. Any suggestions on something like what I'm looking for?

I found these Foredom grinders but after getting it going with the right handpiece they still would cost about $200. I guess I would make good use of it if I bought one, but man that seems expensive.

Heres one from HF which sounds good if the cable can take Foredom 1/4" collet handpieces. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=40432

This one looks decent though

Heres a "Foredom type" whatever that means. But if I can get a 1/4" shank to fit it, then great

I like the last one because it is the chuck style. That means you have a much bigger selection of bits. It said up to 5/32 bits will fit.

Unless they are all like that, and I just missed it.

Yeah me too, problem being that the last one is the one I'd like to avoid. It's the most expensive and I would have to get the different handpiece to fit 1/4" bits which is what the Standard Abrasive porting bits are. I'm really liking the 3rd one though. Good price, 1/3hp, foot pedal, multiple collets etc. The accesories for it are relatively inexpensive too.

Also, I just found out you can buy all the SA stuff at Summit for pretty cheap.

i use a Foredom flexable shaft grinder. been using it for years. don't short change your self on tools. good tool make things go alot easier. there are many different attatchments and bit combo's,yes some are expensive. use the right tool for the right job. you wouldn't want your surgon buying buget scalples to operate on you.
