Most are going to be reputable. Do a search and learn about all the different ones.

VT Stage II or Comp 270s. They both make nice numbers and it is now a general rule of thumb at Modular Depot and other forums that its best to skip the mild cams because of the gains that the VT Stage II and Comp 270s give you even without ported heads. Crower has been around for ever, but is new to the modular game and there hasn't really been much data for their products. Whatever you do, just stay away from any of the "regrind" cams like Crane, etc.

I personally have Comp 270s and couldn't be happier. VT has nice products and a better rep for quality on modular camshafts. The only reasons I would go with Comp 262s or VT Stage I cams would be if:

- I lived in a smog-nazi state and was worried about emmissions testing
- Didn't want to change springs (which is OK but new springs are always recommended)
- If you don't like a lopey idle

I'm in the same boat with cams being on my list of mods for the near future. I've done a lot of research on this subject, here's my thoughts.
Buying cams is like buying shoes, you need to decide what you want to do with them. Go to a formal party, run a marathon, play a field sport.
Once you decide what goals you have for your car then you can start to chose the cam specifications that will get you to your goal. Cam lift and duration are the 2 main criteria for choosing a cam. The more gross lift and the more degree of duration the more radical the cam is and the more posible HP to be made. From what I understand, the top suppliers of cams for modular mustangs are: Comp, Crower, Crane, VT, SHM, HP.

Unless something has changed in recent months since I did my cam research, stay far away from Crane. They do not use new billets but rather regrind OEM cams. Many people have had problems getting the Cranes to setup properly in the heads. And some that did have success in the beginning had problems down the road. Here are two good articles about one enthusiasts nightmare with regrinds.
