It all depends on how complete it is. K-code engines have a partial VIN on the block that matches the car. If your car is in good shape and close to stock, selling it and getting another car to modify would be the best option. But it's your car and you can do whatever you want to it, but think of this, it's not so much your car as it is that you are the caretaker of it. If kept in good shape, taken care of and not totalled out, your car is going to outlive you.
A true good running K-Code motor 100% complete (correct carb, heads, cam, balancer, exhaust manfolds, distributor, correct date codes etc.) is worth somewhere between 5 to 8K. Most, but not all, have the cars VIN stamped on the front side of the block, just above the oil pan on the passenger side.
