What's the best hitch setup for a 99-04 Mustang?

OK so far I haven't been able to sell my car, and it's really starting to piss me off lol... So I'm thinking about just throwing a hitch on the stang so I can tow my bike (one of the things i was gonna do if I could sell this and buy something else). I got the idea from a local guy who has a hitch on his 08GT procharged GT and hauls the bike to the track, races the bike, then races the car I think that's pretty sick!

I've done a bit of research and have come up with the Hidden Hitch class 1, and Drawtight class 1 - both of which are around the same price.

Which one is better? Or at least, which company is more reputable in general? Can anybody recommend a good site to order from?

I'm thinking about something like this for a trailer... Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices or some other small utility trailer (bike trailer would be best for the bike, but I also wanna be able to haul crap around ).

This is a serious tech question, so please save the stupid "hitch on a mustang???" comments.

what are you going to hook it to? Unibodies and hitches to not work.

Uhh have you ever looked under a mustang? It's a semi-integrated framerail design based on f/r rails integrated into a center unibody structure. It's a bolt on piece into stock locations... I'm just asking which kit is best. Here is a pic of a cobra with one for reference...notice it's very stealthy! Also, i have FL-SFC's so body flex won't be an issue. Ford rates cobras at 2000lbs towing capacity, so I think my car is about the same

we have a draw tight on my dads truck, good hitch never had any problems, dont know about the mustang one though.....

OK! I'm only going to be towing 600lbs with my bike, gear, jack, stands, and track tires for the car.

I went to a truck specialist shop (that just now started doing cars too) and they said the drawtite unit is adequate, but they haven't dealt with Hidden Hitch. The guy gave me a funny look when I said it was for my mustang, but he said it was real common for people to put them on town cars, toyotas, kias, lincolns, blah blah blah - which proves to me people are too damn chicken to hookup and haul some load with their stangs

I've seen Mustangs towing jet skis. As long as you don't tow a boat or car trailer i think you would be fine.

Might be a little odd, but it could be interesting to smoke ricers while towing a bike

no hitch. cars were not rated for that extra 600lbs. you have really nice cars, why would you put a hitch on it? i say you just save up and get a cheap truck. i see rangers/ s-10s in our classifieds for 500 to 1000 all day. i bought a 1990 f150 for 500 dollars. ran great hauled anything i needed and didnt stress my stang.

I live in an apartment, I don't have room for more than one car right now, and especially an old beatup pickup truck. And like I said earlier, Ford rates Cobras at 2000lbs towing capacity, and a stock GT is rated at 1000lbs towing capacity. So no, you are 100% wrong, the car was designed with a max 1000lbs towing capacity And with my power upgrades it should be closer to the cobra towing capacity (not to mention all the cobra parts which my car now shares).

So what company is better, Hidden Hitch or Draw-tite?

Yeah you have the power to pull 700-1000lbs. but like the other guy said unibodies and hitch's don't work well, but if you don't care any more for your stang than that just put the bike in the back seat. Because with a hitch on it you couldn't run fast enough to give it away.

^^ The great tech posts just keep on coming These hitches are bolt on items that are easily removed, and they are only like $120...it's not a huge investment. And OH NO! I want to USE my car to actually DO something instead of slapping on some ricer stickers, body kit, ricer fiber, and calling it "modded".

I have the power to pull WAY more than 700-1000lbs ... But, I don't have the gross vehicle weight to do anymore than that... General rule of thumb is don't exceed 2/3 vehicle weight on a tow - also all of the hitches available for these cars are class 1 which is 2000lbs-tow/200lbs tongue.

If you don't have any tech to contribute, please don't. I already know all the opinions on trailering junk with my mustang, that's not the topic of this thread. Though...it is surprising, such a mullet inspiring car and so many people are opposed to the idea of hauling a sweet load

Yea dude screw all the haters anyways. Which ever hitch you decide is better it'll be sweet to USE your bad a$$ stang to haul yo shat to the track, race both the whip and the bike than load up the stang and haul it all back. Your car is sweet enough to pull off a hitch. Now a stang with just a few boltons and a hitch would be a bit queer. Yours is far from being lightly modded.

geez...haven't you guys ever been to an "open track" day? all kinds of cars (Mustangs included) are pulling little trailers with track tires, tools, etc.

pulling a light trailer is probably MUCH less hard on the car than drag racing it and nobody here says you shouldn't do that

Honestly I know nothing about this but I will say its good to see you keep your car and I feel for you not being able to sell it. Been there done that. LOL

Exactly. It sucks going to an autox (all I've done so far) and having to cram everything into my leather interior.

Yup see it all the time,but on vipers,porche,vettes,ferrari, and muscles.We have the old Texas Speedway here and these groups rent the track for the weekends and they tow trailers just for all that stuff.

Now my dad has Draw tite on his escape for pulling his Bike on a 5'x10' trailer and has no probs at all.

It can and has been done, a buddy of mine pulled a small trailer with his 03 Cobra 'vert, and it never caused ANY issues with the car.

There is more than enough power to pull a trailer, we are driving somewhat muscle-cars.
