I am sort of interested in getting a radar detector for my car. And since radar detector have quite a range to the models I was wondering what is the best radar detector for me.
Most of my driving is done mostly on the highway approximately (60/40)
I am looking for something that detects all laser bands and has minimal false alarms. and has as long of a range as possible.
price range: $200-$300

Escort red line or valentine 1, can't go wrong with either. My red line has already paid for itself a couple times.

Escort Max is outside of your listed price range, but it is pretty awesome. Has built in GPS that automatically records where you encounter false alarms and it will "learn" to no report that alarm. It "remembers" exact frequency from each alert so that if it actually is a cop one day it will still let you now.

Speeding at night...and learning how to drive with the headlights turned off.

My old Fox was black. One time I was going about 100 down the interstate and oops passed a cop. As soon as I passed him I knew it was trouble. Turned off the headlights and punched it.

As some of you know my Fox was built for road racing. I knew I was about 2 miles from the next exit so I got up to about 130mph and then started coasting. Saw the flashing lights in my rear view.

Took the exit ramp at about 90. Then used gears to slow down so not to show any brake lights. Slowed down to about to about 30 and crossed over the road and back to the entrance ramp....creeping until I saw the dumb cop fly past still on the interstate.

Turned my lights back on and punched it. Caught back up to the cop. Pulled up next to him going about 90. Waved and tossed a stale Taco Bell supreme burrito at his windshield.

He was kinda a fat bastard...suddenly he slowed down and in my rear mirror saw his left hand wiping the beans and cheese off the windshield and eating it.

Lesson learned. Never speed without the Taco Bell police deterrence device.

The best radar detector on the market you can buy is the one you don't. They are nothing more than an alert system than informs you that there is a ticket in your future.

I wondered if any were worth the money when the patrol went to laser. The beam size leaves little room for warning without being clocked. Am I off about that? Besides there are so many rail lines next to our main roads that false signals will drive you nuts here.
