I have purchased a set of BBK 1 5/8" Long tube headers for my 1989 5.0. I definitely don't plan on using the gasket provided with the headers. From looking at different gaskets from Felpro and Mr. Gasket for my application. My question is, how come the Felpro gasket has square holes and the Mr. Gasket has oval? Are there any benefits to either? Which is the best for my application?

Mr Gasket sells the correct square gaskets. You can not use the round gaskets your headers won't seal. Felpro gaskets for the factory headers will work if your heads have not been ported if they have been ported the holes are not large enough on the gaskets. I used the original BBK gaskets with no problems for 5 years with no leaks.

Funny cuz the gaskets that come /w the bbk headers are oval... the copper gaskets I ordered from mr gasket were square but i got the wrong ones. Package says up to year 86. The 87-93 package has oval holes ...

The stock gaskets I pulled off has square holes, so I just used the gaskets I got /w square holes.

Thanks for the tips. I bought one of each. I bought the felpro 1415's, with square holes, and some ones with oval holes as well. I'm just gonna return whichever ones I don't use. I'll decide when the stock headers are off.
