whats this noise?

Lately after work i go to start my car and just get this noise (click click click) and the car isnt turning over or anything...just click click click. i let it sit for a few seconds and try it again and wham it works.
i dont know much about cars (thats where YOU GUYS come in and help me! ) so help me out please

I would check battery connections (both ends) and connections on the solenoid. Cables can rot from the inside out too, so check the cables closely.

It could be like he said, a bad battery, bad terminals on one end or the other or just a bad solenoid. The clicking you hear is the solenoid but theres not enough power to engage the starter for some reason.
