After finishing the dent make sure to feather edge the paint next to the repair area and apply a self-etching primer to the metal only and a 2k primer surfacer to the whole area. (make sure that the primer used is not a laquer based spray can, theare pourous and will let moisture behind them and begin rusting). Any other questions feel free to quote or PM me

what you really need to prime with is EPOXY primer. even urethane primers will absorb moisture of not topcoated. EPOXY is the most corrosion resistant primer, and is the best choice if you are not going to repaint after the repair.

Epoxy primer is great, but I would not use it on a spot repair. It is much more cost effective and time friendly to use self etching primer.

but the self etch and urethane combo will not hold up to the elements. i had a buddy go that route. the car sat outside for 2 weeks, with rain a few times. when he went to sand the primer, rust was starting to form under the primer. he called me to ask about it, and i called a few paint reps. they stated it is not a good idea to leave primers (other than epoxy) uncoated.

People freak about bondo in their cars, but it's only a big deal if it's there to fill huge holes. Ask any serious hotrod builder and they'll tell you that almost every badass paint job you see has bondo under it because it's just about impossible to have the metal by itself as flat and perfect as you can get bondo.

my car has 1/2" or so (a little more in a few spots, but mostly less) of bondo in it, in various places..if the panel is bad, cut one out of a donor car and weld into place, i had to do this once and bondo the rest, i really really hope it holds up and doesn't crack under my new gloss black that we're shooting on tuesday..primer is tomorrow. i'm very tired of sanding, dont forget to buy a tube of glazing and spot putty for the fine cracks
