whats wrong with my t-45 tranny?

It's a T45, that's whats wrong! Time for a 3650 swap (or TKO, w/e you like).

3650's suck ballz too. I don't know what you guys are smokin...the t45 has less probs than the 3650 from my opinion. Havn't you seen the HUGE 3650 thread where every says they have problems?

I'd get a TKO or something better...

The problems with the 3650 are grossly over represented. Most of the problems people have are things liek "it makes sounds when in low gears on cold start!!" and "Sometimes it grinds when I don't push the clutch in all the way!". T45 is notchy as hell, doesn't handle as much power, and is not as good period.

Most all of the 3650 problems were fixed with the 03+ models, and also TKO's have just as many problems as T45's, or 3650's even. No transmission is problem free, but from personal EXPERIENCE my educated opinion is that the TR3650 is a superior transmission to the T45.

Your wrong on that one. They can handle about the same amount.

And I think the t45 is more reliable because I see WAY more people b1tching about the 3650 compared to the t45. And just for your info, tranny's aren't suppose to grind while shifting . That would indicate bad synchros...

Lmao you're wrong. T45 = 335ftlbs torque capacity, TR3650 is rated at 360ftlbs torque capacity. The first two numbers denote the torque capacity. I have 408tq at the wheels, launch hard under boost on prepped tracks and the tranny holds strong - clutch grips too (zero slip).

My point was that people bitch, and simply jump on the bad transmission band wagon - but the fact is more and more T45's are proving to not hold up to the test of time and are failing just 4-5+ years into their life, nor are they holding high torque capacities in blown applications when fitted with gripping clutches. And like I said also, most of the problems with 3650's were solved with the TSB's calling for less fluid (so it heats up faster basically), and also of course the "fix" which replaces 1-2 synchros with updated units. Most 03+ manufactured trans came "fixed" from the factory (04 model year cars).

Of course, every once and a while you'll get a freak unit + circumstance where a 3650 will hold 600+ftlbs or a T45 might do the same. But overall, from my driving experience, pulling these things in/out quite a bit, etc...I would have to say that the TR3650 is a superior unit to the T45.


244spf: Pull your shifter out, could be a broken shifter, OR the handle might have broken. It happened to me once, it was really embarrassing pulling the cover off and seeing a bolt missing with my buddies in the car thinking I had just blown my trans. If it's not the shifter/handle it's most likely a broken linkage.

Notice how I said ABOUT the same...30 lbs isn't much difference bud. And plus those numbers don't mean much. I see people using stock t45's and 3650's with supercharger's that last for YEARS. And guess what, they have closer to 400WHP. Just like 2v engines...some can last with 450WHP, some pop with 360. So I'm still sticking with the t45 being more reliable. Obviously if HUNDREDS of people complain about major problems, there was a bad batch or something. Believe what you want...I don't care.

when you move the shifter to the next gear, do you feel any notchiness or does it feel like you're just moving the shifter around in air? I'm thinking maybe you damaged something in the shift linkage, or broke some shift forks (though I don't see how they would get damaged all at once). But yeah, definitely something in the linkage

+1 for the 3650 it is ALOT smoother (once warm) Alot cheaper than buying a tko
