Curious: if I put 20" wheels on my mustang will it affect performance at all? Just wondering.

Yes. More wheel to turn. It woun't be a lot but with the added weight and diameter of the wheel it'll be a little slower. And why twankies?

Just my .02 what kind of 20's are you talking here?

Do you really want to donk out your mustang? If it's a V6 then go ahead - but never with a V8.

I have only seen a select amount of 20" wheel setups that look good on a 96-04 Mustang. A few of them are posted on this website if you look hard enough.

In my opinion, 20" wheels fit the 05+ cars much better due to their larger wheel wells. On a 96-04 car, the openings aren't all that big. 18" wheels look pretty large on our cars, and I couldn't imagine wanting to go much bigger.

Will they fit? Yes.

Will you lose performance? Yes.

Will they look good? Thats all in the eye of the beholder. Put some trash donk wheels on there, and no. But again thats just an opinion.

Just throw some 18's on there and lower it(better performance and looks). But it is YOUR car, so do what you think looks good.

IMO, all you will be doing is paying more for worse looks, performance, scratch/bend easier, and probably people laughing at you....but that is just my opinion.

Thanks for the advice, I already have 18" wheels on my baby now, but there is still some significant space left. Would it be beneficial to lower the suspension and beef up the tires? It just looks incomplete and I have never owned any wheels larger than the ones I have. I admit 20"s seem a little distasteful which is the precise reason I wanted to know the performance benefits, seeing that there aren't any, I won't go down that road.

Furthermore...

Are there any wheels that would provide better stability and support? For instance, alloy choices, width in the front vs. the rear etc? I am an avid Mustang enthusiast, but haven't had the chance to really work on my GT till now.

All opinions are appreciated.

It would help out alot to lower the car if it is at stock height. It really makes a world of difference.

What type of wheels are on there right now?

Alot of people run a staggered wheel size setup. I am running 17x8 up front, and 17x10.5 in the back with a 315/35/17 tire on the rear end. It helps with handling for sure.

A lowering kit would significantly help your handling, traction, and looks.

like said above, what wheels/suspension are you running right now? Some pictures would be nice, and we could help out a lot more with pics.

You'll increase your braking significantly with big azz rims and tires like that...

19"s on the 05+ Mustang look great - probably 20"s as well...but the SN-95 is a much smaller car. Just lower it to close the gap. 18"s are the max for the SN-95.

I'm currently running 18" "Premier" wheels. They get the job done but seem to be permanently stained from the last owner. I purchased my GT in Washington and drove it down to Arizona where I live. Everything is stock on the vehicle but it's a beauty: Black on black on black 2000 convertible GT 5 speed with a stock Mach stereo and only 17,000 original miles. I love her to death. Thanks for all the advice!!!

Ok sounds like a well kept car. Do you like the Premier wheels? If so than get you some H&R SS springs with your choice of Koni/Tokico/Bilstein shocks and struts and call it a day. If not then find you a set of 18's that you DO like (check out the http://forums.stangnet.com/605976-official-4-6-liter-mustang-photo-thread.html thread for options) IMHO the staggered look with the Deep Dish rears and some fat ole' tires out back =. And since its a vert you can't go wrong with a light bar. Oh and

Do not put 10.5 on the rear of a 96-98 gt mine rubbed the crab out of the inside and outside.
