Wheel hop isn't something that is normally intermittent.

the solution might also be that there are "hot spots" on the flywheel or slight cracks, to solve this problem the best solution is to have the flywheel re-surfaced. I had the same problem and have never had a problem sense.
Lots of possible reasons for clutch chatter: bad flywheel, bad clutch, bad pressure plate, bad motor/tranny mounts, worn (sloppy) clutch linkage, worn clutch pedal support bushings, bad u-joints, weak rear springs. Primary cause is the use of a remanufactured clutch/pressure plate, followed by a warped/uneven flywheel BUT I have seen all the other factors cause clutch chatter also.
Wheel hop, on the other hand, is almost always traceable to rear spring wrapup. Weak springs are the primary cause, but using air shocks (which unloads the springs) can cause it also. Stiffer rear springs and/or a good traction device (like Caltracs) will eliminate wheel hop.
