Wheel offset question.

I'll be getting the 18/17 wheel combo. I see that there are several offset options. What does the offset do? The only 18" wheel is 24mm offset(this will be for the rear) and the front have 2 options a 17x9 (24mm or 45mm). I know there's a 26mm difference but in what? Which one would look more flush with the fender?

In plain English, what does the offset measure?

you might wanna look up the stock offset for like cobra r's or something... i dont rember what it was but mine sit prety flush with the fender as is.... it would make sense to me to get the 24 for the front... but im not sure y lol

what is the width of the backs...??? 10.5x18???

i always thought the off set was the holes... for the lugs... but i might be seriouly wrong... lol

So, after reading it 100000000000 times, I think I understand. It's basically how far back/deep the hub in the wheels is. This in turn, would make the wheel sit further out if the offset is too large or is it vise versa. This is very cofusing.

yep... thats what i got from it... LOL its how far the hub sits in respect to the centerline of the rim i think... just wait for someone with brains unlike me to post up in here... lol

Offset is, in fact, the location of the hub face (the part that actually touches the rotor, on our cars) in relation to the centerline of the wheel. Usually measured in + or - millimeters. Negative offset wheels have more of the wheel to the outside of the hub face (like the wheels that guys use to "skateboard" a car) and positive (like front wheel drive wheels) have more of the wheel to the inside of the hub face.

Backspacing is the distance from the rear lip of the wheel to the hub face. Usually measured in inches. The simplest way to describe it is to lay the wheel on its face, run a straight edge between the outer lip edges of the wheel and measure from the bottom of the straight edge to the hub face. Both + and - offset wheels can be measured this way.

the 24mm offset is right. that keeps the wheel centered where it is. if the rim is 1" wider than stock, the edges will be 1/2" more out and 1/2" more in. the other offset is way off; it must be for 05-06 mustangs or something.

Not meaning to split hairs but, 24mm offset is not centered. In fact, it is 24mm OFF center. If the wheel is 1" wider than stock, it could be added to the inside, outside or split between the two. The 10.5" wheels that guys use on the back of Mustangs has most of the width added to the outside. That's why the wheel edge is flush with the wheel opening.

definately splitting hairs. 24mm is the correct offset. nuff said.
