I recently purchased some draglites and put them on the car. In order to prevent them from rubbing I put 1/4 spacers on them. It is still a 4 lug car. I always torque the wheels on using a torque wrench set at 90ftlbs. I am wondering what your thoughts are on this setup?

For starters the torque specs are 100ft/lbs.... and with spacers you wanna make sure you get a good torque... And if you get an offset wheel you most likely wont need spacers... what size is the wheel?

actually torque specs according to the papers that come with the weld drag lites are 80-85 ft/lbs. I also use a small spacer for my 15x8 with a 5.5 inch back space. I have never had any problems what so ever. i still have my quad shocks on and i run a 275mm tire.

Torque specs have nothing to do with the wheel... you torque a lugnut to the stud... i do it everyday for a living.... but thats beside the point... so what size wheel are you using

i believe in most cases you are right but since the weld drag lites are a 3 piece rim and you are actulally squishing 2 pieces of aluminium together onto a hub inside the rim. i believe that in this case torque specs must be a little bit of a issue. but i do agree 100% with you. torques specs for bolts and studs are different depending on there size.

the only thing to consider would be longer studs so that your lugs get more grip on the studs; other than that I think you're fine. I have done that on my car before and didn't change the studs, but I don't run 12.5's at 112 either.

this is a good point. I installed a set of arp 3 inch racing studs. moser is also a good brand. Its a good upgrade for cars with only 4 studs. Not much chance in sheering the studs off with the racing ones in there. slicks and factory studs just don't mix. I have heard 2 many horror stories of sheered studs.

I apologize for not responding. I am deployed so my ability to write much is limited. I am going to upgrade to Moser axles when I get back so I am sure that would help reduce the chances of breaking a stud. The wheel sizes are:

Front 15x7 (not sure of the backspacing but when I removed them from another car they were rubbing the struts so I put a 1/4 spacer, fine now)

Rear 15x8 with 5.5 BS, 1/4 spacer with 275-50-15 ET Street Radials

I realy like my Draglites but I want to be safe.
