When people say grind the baffles off the valve covers....

Do they mean the square bracket in the back or the pillars along the inside rim? My new valvecovers just cracked....crap. I need to grind up the stockers to fit the 1.7 RR's. How did you folks grind them off. I tried a dremel but it I'll be here till next week and clog up dozens of bits before I get this all these pillars off.

Just the baffle on the passenger side valve cover, where you fill the oil, needs to be removed and where it attaches. That should be enough to get them to clear.

I use a Rasp bit on a die grinder to do the work.

Sometimes removing the baffle isn't enough (I know from experiance) Sometimes you need to actually grind down the nub where the screws that hold the baffle on go. Then you'll be good.

My 1.7 Crane Rockers fit without doing any modifications to the valve cover. I just used a cork gasket along with the metal stock one and it cleared it with no problems and just a cork gasket on the drivers side... I like keeping the baffle on there for a little better oil protection..

If I understand correctly....the baffle is there to keep oil from entering the PCV tube, right?

I think I'm going to leave this grinding for the fishes and do the gentle art of gasket stacking. I am quite disappointed in my edelbrock valvecovers. They survived 4 warmup cycles before splitting down the side. I just saw _billowing_ clouds of smoke. My neighbors really hate me because smoke always seems to zoom into their backyard instead of staying in mine. =)

I saw oil BOILING on the header flange. It was quite cool actually.

Some people remove the baffle and just stick a fuel filter in the line between the neck and the TB.

Its a baffle, it prevents splashing of oil, whether it be while your filling your motor up, or to prevent it from being sucked through whatever tube it is..its just a baffle, grinding it down, or just UNSCREWING the actual baffle isnt going to hurt anything.

I just removed my baffle from my stock valve covers when I had 1.6 Cranes (pedestal)...and then I cracked the valve covers when I was doing the h/c/i swap so I bought new "Cobra" (ford racing) valve covers and removed the baffle on it to and they cleared my 1.6 stud-mounted Scorpions with new OEM VC gaskets...

There are three little bolts that hold the baffle down...there is no ill effect on my car from removing the baffle...

When people say grind the baffles off the valve covers....
