someone has a posting for world jr 302 heads, and its apparent that he was carbed, as he is selling the intake and carb as well. Are heads year/carbe/forced injection specific or could I make these work on an 87 block?

they will bolt onto your block with no issues. remember that the 289/302 block is essentially the same from its inception in 1962 as the 221, all they way through its demise in 1996 as the 5.0. everything that bolts to the old 221 bolts equally well to the 95 5.0, and every engine in between. check the heads, and any other hard parts you might buy, over carefully for cracking, ask if the heads and intake have been milled at all, etc. if they check out, then grab them and dont look back.

thanks for the quick response! I wasnt sure if there were any EGR or fuel injection specific provisions. they are advertised as #5303 for 302/351. Is that a decent head? whats a fair price? prices are a little higher up here in Alaska, so I might have to pay a premium.

The heads may or may not have the exhaust crossover port. Anything pre-87 might not have them... I looked up the part number and I couldn't find if they did or did not. Might want to call and ask if you plan to run cats and a smog pump.

What Noobz said. Pre 87 have flat top pistons. When buying any used head, always check PTV as you don't know how much the heads have been milled. Get an extra head gasket, put some modeling clay on top of the piston, put some oil on the clay so it doesn't stick to the valve, torque it down with the head. Install the pushrods, rockers, and adjust up the rockers for that cylinder. Run it 2 cycles- open close open close open close. Remove the head and measure the the indentation in the clay. You want at least .10 clearance IMO

Woody has a great tech article on his site

most ford heads, even the aftermarket have the exhaust crossover passage, but unless you absolutely need them, dont bother trying deal with them.
