I tried to search it up in this forum, but the god damn search button doesnt work.

I'm assuming its going to be using the 5.0L Cammer as well as the T-56 trans?

Anybody know how much its going to cost?

Good question. I originally heard that it was going to be a 2007 model, available in late 2006. MT said that it was going to be out as a 2006 model in late 2005. Autoweek stated, in the article about dropping the Lightning, that the Cobra would be available about this time next year.

Anyone else have a prediction?

My ultimate dream...

An '06 Cobra SVT with a 5.0L Cammer Engine / T-56 Transmission with an Eleanor Body Kit. Holly ****, it would definitely turn some heads. I know the Cammer engine is so bad ass

I like the '05, but damn.. there's something that doesn't quite cut it for me. IT certainly LOOKS the part (although there is a definite need for some body kits to complete the look) it just needs more OOOMPPHH.. 300 HP is good.. but for once in my lifetime Im going to go all OUT for the '06 Cobra if it hauls ass.. otherwise I'm off to mopar ville... or worse yet chevytown.

I did the Ford Power Lease which is a 30 month lease designed to end at the same time the new 2007 SVT Mustang comes out. It gives those that did the lease first dibs at the new SVT model. So I would say for sure a 2007 model coming out in September of 2006.

The 'cammer' isn't a production engine. It will either be a 4.6 or a 5.4 of some kind. There is no 5.0.

If you want natural aspiration over a blower for some reason, we would be better off with a 5.4 3V.

Doesn't matter.. I wouldn't buy one until 2008 (late 2007) any way. Look at all the problems with the 03's... Better to just wait an extra year to make sure all the bugs are worked out..

LOL, that's probably good advice! Kudos to the brave souls buying all of these first year cars. I wish you all the best.

The SVT Mustang

The convertable is coming next year followed by the SVT shortly thereafter.I work at a Ford dealer and thats what the reps have been telling me. Supposedly, the SVT is gonna be below 40k...somewhere around 38k Im hearing.

Ive seen more legit scources, saying its gonna be end of 05, over what people were saying about end of 06. However I dont belive anyone till SVT or Ford Gives a date, and, or I see it on the showroom floor.

Id like to a better hood, Id like to see a 11/2in cowl induction hood, something completely oldschool. On the SVT, bigger tires, these people thinking 20's look good.....yuck, put 17's or 18's and fill the rest with tred . The 5.4l SC engine, rip that bitch right out of the FORD GT and set it in the cobra, they already have the dyes for the block and parts, just put them on a assembly line. Oh well, to each his own right...?!?!?....

I would have agreed with you until SVT announced the demise of the Lightning. Since the Lightning was specifically covered in the same SVT PowerLease document as the Cobras, I think everything is in question now -- Ford might very well flip the bird to everyone and release the Cobra early, since they flipped the bird at all the Lightning PowerLease holders by not coming out with a Lightning at all. With luck they'll allow you to end that lease a year early with no penalty .

No, they are just on a break...

Seriously though, no one has said a word about the future of the actual SVT name.

Some say the name with change but the goal will be the same. Others say the name will stay the same but the goal will change.

stipulation makes me unhappy

Lots of rumors about this.. and they are fairly reasonable. The two biggest being:

1) lack of profitability
2) lack of compliance with EPA strategy

I personally think the Cobra is doomed. There will be one, but no way will it be more than another 4.6.. and low 400hp MAX. The reason is that Ford is already designing a 100k Ford Cobra to sit between the Mustang and Ford GT. Read Motor Trend for the info. No way will Ford let a Mustang Cobra creep up on hp when the 100k Ford Cobra will be making 500 max itself.

You really think Ford will make a $100K Mustang? Motor Trend isn't exactly reliable material. I highly doubt a $100K Cobra would make it's way to production. I bet they'll stick the 5.4 in there and keep it around 400HP.

If they can't get us a cobra by 06, they should release a 06 Mustang Cobra R with a supercharged v10. They did it in 2000 when the regular cobra didn't make the cut.

Someone who claims to have a connection posted (Brad's site?) that both the Lightning and Mustang Cobra development were ahead of schedule and are done.

HE said the decision not to build and sell a new Lightning was a bean counter decision and the Mustang Cobra could suffer the same fate.

Ford really needs SVT vehicles for image building. But I wonder if SVT has ever been profitable. I can't imagine what warranty claims for SVT vehicles are.

It's clear that Ford is really looking to save some bucks anywhere it can. Look at what Ford has done lately:

Pulled out of F1 racing, team up for sale.
Cosworth up for sale
Future participation in World Rally not clear.
SVT Focus canned
Lightning canned.
Mazda and Volvo platforms used as the basis for almost ALL new North American car models.

I've heard that the SEC is investigating both Ford and GM for the way their pension oblications are funded. Both Ford and GM are using un-obtainable rates of investment return to claim that their pensions are properly funded. If the government makes them lower their return calculations and add more cash funding it could effectively bankrupt both Ford & GM.
