I am thinking about getting an aftermarket tach but have no idea where I would put it? Are most of you just running the in-dash? If so I may just stick with the stock one and buy a gauge pod to go where the clock is.

I personally hate the big tachs. I think they are ricey. Im biased though, sense every single import around here has one. I would only get a tach if i had a serious drag car. Otherwise a small shift light is more then enough. Doesnt really answer your question, just my thoughts.

I just use the stock tach in conjunction with a shift light mounted to the top of the steering column

I personally loove my monster 5" autometer cobalt glow tach, sittin right up on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. It makes it feel like a cockpit, and gives off the signal that "i race", as far as it being ricey, it was on american drag cars first.

P.s.-that shiftlite is funnly blinding at night.

Yea i wanna see, and which shiftlight do you have? I was thinking of getting one of the MSD ones that takes the pills, since i already have an msdbox. they seem to sell a pretty small one..

I think a big tach looks cool but I realize that the in-dash is perfectly functional. Does the shift light work OK being on the steering column?

I have the Autometer quicklite that requires the extra rpm module. I got it for a steal of a deal and had been looking for one for a while. I stuck the rpm module in the glove box for easy access to the pills and stuff, and tapped a wire in the passenger kick panel, but with your msd box you would have to run a wire directly to the "tach" plug on it.

It works very well. I keep the steering column in the middle position, and it still shines in the direction of my face. Its not overly blinding, but it Is noticable and will grab your attention to let you know when to shift.

The reason I used the smaller light is because I am going for a "stealth" look in my interior.

Pics will be up tomorrow evening of it

i got the UPR bracket also, i like it. only thing i don't like is that if you have the clock pod gauges, you have to look around the tach to see the one on the left. no big deal.

ask killercanary about the guy they stole the design from on the corral, u can supposedly get them cheaper from him.

Yes, my thoughts exactly! If you need a huge tachometer to see when your shifting or a gigantic light to tell you when to shift, you do not need to be driving a manual transmission. There are some exceptions, like if you run a 4.56 gear when 1st and 2nd gear last a second, or like Jesse said, on a hardcore drag car. Those monster tachs are like 300 bucks? You know how much horsepower is caged up in 300 bucks? Give me 300 bucks, and I'll get you 20 horsepower - not a ridiculous tachometer.

I'll crawl back into my hole now .
