WHERE IS THE CORRECT "FULL" MARK ON THE OIL DIPSTICK?

Can someone please post a pic or a simple explanation as to where "full" should be.....

Try this. Drain all oil out, front and back pulg. Put on a new filter. Add 5 quarts, let it run for a minute so the filter gets full. Then mark the dipstick where the oil level is. The factory line is known to be wrong.

THe cross hatched area means your supposed to add half a quart. The oil level should be between the cross hatched area the second "L" in Full. There is a long arrow in between those two areas.

With 5 quarts and a filter change mine is right on the top of the crosshatched area. Plenty of people on here have dipsticks that are no right though so just put five quarts in and a new filter run it a few minutes give it a few minutes to drain back down and remark if need be.

Not to cover "oil changing 101", but I was taught in Auto shop to always add some oil to the NEW filter and oil up the O-ring before installation...

susureshot.....agreed, I always put 1/2qt in the filter and lube the o ring to get a good seal....Thanks guys......I couldn't remember.

I never put any oil in the filter, but I always oil the gasket. On my old covertible, at five quarts the oil level would be way over the FULL on the stick. Even after running the car. On the LX five quarts puts it at the FULL.

My car takes about 6 quarts including the FL-1A filter

If the level is halfway down the crosshatching, then it needs half a quart. if it's below it, it needs 1 quart.

You're overfilling your engine. The dipsticks on quite a few of these cars are wrong. The fill amount is 5 quarts including the filter.

Yeah, unless some one changed the pan, but I've never heard of a 6qt pan.

I don't know how much extra oil it takes to have the crank splashing around in it , but I would think a quart would do it. Doesn't sound like a good idea.

The reason it is a good idea to put oil in the filter, I believe is because that is where your engine first goes to take oil from. If you don't put any in there, it usually cranks a bit longer to get the oil going throughout, and that could lead to engine wear. I don't know for sure, but I have heard that from many people.

You are exactly correct. Always fill the filter before replacing or else when you start it - its first 5 seconds will be a "dry suck" giving your engine a very stressful time.
